I use Listerine Strips (cinnimon) and if I don't have any left, I gargle with saltwater(2 tsp. salt mixed with 8 oz. warm water).
Both these remedies help short-term.

Tea with honey and lemon. Also, get some lozenges at your local drugstore. I like Ricola. They work really well and they taste pretty good.

gargle vodka. or soak the chopped up skin of a pomegrannite (sp?) in a glass of water for 2/3 house and drink it

lemon makes mine worse. doctor always says warm salty water and anything with asprin takes down the swelling
