I am 5'3" and weigh about 95 pounds, and I have lived by my own version of dieting for 20 years.

1) Stop using eating as a way to celebrate...get together with family and friends just to have coffee, instead of dinner. Reward yourself with great shoes instead of fatty desserts.
2) Do NOT keep the following in your house: donuts, cookies, potato chips, ice cream, and pre-packaged snacks
3) If you have to buy frozen prepared foods, make sure you get the low-fat, low-carb versions
4) Eat as many fresh veggies and as much broiled fish as you can fit into your body. The fullness will give you satisfaction and keep you from eating unhealthy foods.
5) If you crave chocolate, get dark 60-70% cocoa high-quality chocolate chips in a large bag and keep them in the freezer. Take out only 10 and set them in a small bowl. Allow yourself to snack on those all day...do NOT eat them all at the same time because you will cause a sugar rush, which will create rebound eating later.

To lose weight you need to burn more calories than you take in -- period. Short term diets are useless. Successful weight management requires a lifestyle change. If you eat healthy and exercise regularly you will succeed. If you starve yourself or seriously limit your caloric intake you will fail. I find that a low carb/no sugar diet works perfect for me. Good luck!
