Descartes never doubted God's existence during the Meditations. They are an attempt to predicate scientific practice on nature and reason, without Dogma. He presented his work to the Church after completion.

He tended to use the same circular reasoning that "cogito ergo sum" posits. He assumed a benevolent god, saw that good was in the world, and decided that good came from the benevolent god. This argument presumes a god, not proves it, and is fraught full of easily refutable arguments. The man was a better mathematician than a philosopher.

cogito ergo sum was not meant to be a statement of atheism, but of existence. behind descartes writing was ALWAYS a stated belief in god (though whether or not this was sincere, I don't know). In fact, I find this to be a major weakness of his method, thathe still needs to have a god around.

Not exactly sure but I tried it.
W/o God there is NO higher meaning.
The meaning to a Godless life is to feel pleasure and to procreate.

A personal decision, I suppose.
How many religious people have lost their faith and become athiests? There is always churn in groups. That's what free will is all about.

Who knows? Who cares? I'm an atheist you couldn't pay me enough to change my mind. Either try it for yourself or get on with whatever religion you subscribe to. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of a religion that promotes mockery.

Most everyone would agree that living is pretty great, but people go on committing suicide anyway. Who knows?

I have no clue who that is. However I would say for the same reason people leave their religions and become an Atheist.
