Because the Jews do not include the New Testament in their scriptures, why would they refer to their Torah as the Old Testament? They already had a name (Torah) which was in use for 400-500 years before the NT came along. So why change.

Jews don't like the Hebrew Bible to be referred to as the "Old Testament" because: 1)They don't believe in the New Testament. 2) The Hebrew Scriptures are still applicable, and aren't "old". 3) "Old Testament" is a Christian phrase.
They feel that the phrase "Old Testament" takes away the importance of the Scriptures themselves.

The old testament equals the old covenant between God and His people, where He gave the laws to Moses. the new testament equals the new covenant with God and His people, where He will write His commandments on their heart and minds, by believing that Christ came and atoned for the people's sins. As some Jews are still looking for the Messiah, they do not recognize the New Testament.

Orthodox Jews do not separate because they have only the Old Testament as Torah, laws handed down by Moses from God and prophesies. They do not believe Jesus to be the Messiah. They do acknowledge the historical facts of His birth, but are still waiting for the Messiah.

How would you feel if Muslims called your book the "Old Testament" because it had been replaced by the Koran?
Testament means contract or covenant. We Jews still have our original Testament (contract) with God. Christians might have a separate, new contract of their own, but it certainly doesn't replace the Jewish Contract. God doesn't renege on his promises!
Marvin R. We are not waiting for a "savior." God is our savior. The messiah will be a great leader (human) who will bring peace on earth and justice for all humanity!

Because the testament of The Law and the Prophets ends with Malachi for them.
They do not believe in the New Testament. It represents a different religion.

Actually "old" testament isn't correct, because it implies that it is no longer needed.
The Hebrew Scriptures were not replaced by the "new" or Greek Scriptures.
Many of the prophecies in the Hebrew Scriptures are still coming true today.

Having an 'old' testament would imply a 'new' testament.
Since those who study the Torah don't recognize a new covenant, they would decidedly NOT refer to their scriptures as an 'old' testament.

Because there is just one testament. No new or old. Just one. The one we think to be the old version.
Why? Because of the whole Jesus thing. Most of the New Testament surrounds around Jesus.
