Hi, When you go shopping make sure you check all the boxes. There are so many products that are made with "lower sodium" these days. Plus, the more meals you prepare homemade will have much less sodium context because you leave the salt shaker in the cupboard. My husband is a heart patient so I know what you are going through. Good luck to you Sweetie.

My son is on a low sodium diet and he is supposed to have less then 1,000 mg. a day. It sucks and it's really hard, but you can do it. There are many low sodium options at the grocery stores now, such as: salt free cottage cheese (you can mix it with jam or jelly which has no sodium), low sodium bread (alvarado street and ezekial have them and so does Safeway), unsalted peanut butter, unsalted nuts, low sodium bacon, you can make him eggs with unsalted butter. meat is actually fairly low in sodium. Heinz has salt free Ketchup, there are salt free tortilla chips. Yogurt is fairly low in sodium - just check the label. Ice cream isn't bad either, just check each label and buy the lowest one. Starkist now has low sodium tuna in the can. Ritz and Trisquit have low sodium crackers. Unsalted Macademia nuts are really good too. Candy is low in sodium as well. Mix his vegetables with either unsalted butter or olive oil and vinegar. There is a brand of pancake mix that is also low sodium called "Kodiak Cakes". You can find them online and also at Safeway/Von's. And when all else fails, check this website out below. The Healthy Heart market. You won't BELIEVE the low sodium and salt free stuff you can find. I've ordered a lot of it and most everything is wonderful! They deliver right to your door. Including unsalted potato chips!! Good luck and try to have fun with it! It's the only way to stay sane. :)

You should stay away from processed foods like canned soups and marinades. You should also switch to sodium free salt which tastes just like regular salt. I would say tons of fresh veggies and fruit. You could made roasted chicked, steamed brocholie, a backed potatoe with immitation butter. You need to start reading the labes of foods you buy. Stick to low sodium foods. Even low sodium canned veggies are still good.

Take a look at his potassium levels, and perhaps, you can use potassium salt subsitute. No processed food, and keep a good tab on his sodium intake. Stay away from naproxen and ibuprofen. Get a recipe book which has low sodium meals. No fast food. This is very tough to do.

Fresh fruits and vegetables. There are some low sodium soups on the market. Avoid anything in cans if you can. Read the labels.
Google on "low sodium diets" and you will see a ton of resources.
