Youll be fine. That is not the sort of immigration that is causing problems here.

Americans don't have any fear of foreigners. We have a fear of illegal immigrants. If you come legally and if you and your husband can support yourselves and will not be a burden on American socitey there won't be any problems. Also, I don't know if you speak French or German, but don't expect French/German language newspapers, radio, tv stations, etc. Also, you should plan on learning english as well as possible so you can read all the signs, handle contracts, explain any problems to a doctor, and just live in American society.

You will be welcome. A HUGE portion of the people in the US speak with an accent. I don't think it is as bad you may have seen. Remember, only bad and sensational things make it to the news media. They don't want to show good things....it doesn't make for a good story.

Besides, the US is the "melting pot." We wouldn't be that way if we didn't have people from all over! Please do not worry about people who hate. They are usually the minority, just louder.

As Americans we don't feel like the people of the world are willing to accept us either, but I have found many people who have been friendly and willing to help/accept me as I have travelled around the world. It is the ordinary citizens who really make a place, and they are usually very far removed from the politics that show up in foreign countries on the news. Most average Americans will be glad to have you here. Not to mention we will enjoy listening to your accent. :)

about next week we will hit the 300 million mark for people in the usa. we accepted 1.2 mil immigrants last year, not counting refugees, that was half a mil, and not counting temp workers and students from all over. the us has over 300 million foreign visitors yearly. i migrated to Canada myself married a canuk. They are far ruder to immigrants than the usa.

my first husband was a refugee to the usa. he can attest he is doing quite nicely as is all his family of 11 counting mom dad and his sibs.

there are plenty of free esl classes here. check out www.ed.gov to learn more about our ed system and contact the local school and community ed systems to access esl english as a sec language.

if you can speak other languages now in the usa it helps a lot in some jobs like customer services, govt, spy jobs, and tranlators for courts, govt etc.

we don't have a problem with someone who is here legally and making a contribution to our way of life. Our differences stem from people breaking th law to come and take advantage of our economic and social system with the aim that they are just going to take it back to their home without kicking in a contribution in the community. Pay taxes, work hard raising your family, be a good law abiding citizen and you will make your own friends and gain acceptance. I don't see a reason to be concerned.

You probably will not have a problem since you are European. People are focusing more on immigration from Latin America. Just do me a favor and don't let that hatred against Hispanics stick to your head. You are more than welcome to USA for all that I concern.

Would you be legal?

If so, Willkommen!

This feeling is not against 'foreigners' it is against illegal immigrants. It is all the difference between a guest and a trespasser or burglar.

Put your mind at rest.

All the anti-immigrant hysteria is centered around illegal immigrants, primarily from Mexico so you should be fine if you come to the US legally and aren't Mexican!

You'll be welcomed. The hate you see on here is exaggerated for the most part; people write things on this forum that they would NEVER say face to face.
