Try a Pontiac Sunfire.
A lot less expensive then the others listed here. So, if (and I do mean if) you have an accident you'll have a lot less to be bummed about.
Also, since so many of them were produced, it's not very likely to be stolen.
Finally, because of the above points, your insurance rate will be a lot less.

Anything that gets good gas mileage and isn't a manual transmission. Stick-shifts are a total pain in the @$$ to drive in traffic.

Hybrid. Runs on gas or electric depending on driving conditions. Save tons of cash.
