It feels like I have at least two sides of my self that seem at odds with each other. One would have a certain temperament and have certain likes and dislikes while the other would almost always be the complete opposite. And sometimes when I’m in one state, I would even fear or despise the other.

Is this just regular human behaviour, like a case of mood swings?

If a person really had two or more distinct personalities, would he be able to know it or not?

I didn’t give specifics because I think that would we unwisely personal. I’d appreciate if we could keep this question medical and not otherwise. Thanks.

I think that sounds like BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder) where you see things in "Black and White." It can make you feel like you have two personalities.

Does this sound like you? Frightening mood swings? Can feel Euphoric one moment, desparing and depressed the next? A shaky sense of identity? Oversensitivity to real or imagined rejection? Brief turbulent love affairs? Self Destructive Tendencies?

Well, the two disorders that would be is multiple personality disorder or bipolar disorder. Multiple personality is when you have one or more alterego. A lot of people think multiple personality disorder is a made up disease, psychologists included, and I had two stalkers who claimed to have it, giving me 4 stalkers, lol. But all joking aside, bipolar disorder is always considered a real disease by most people, it used to be called manic depressive disorder so it means sometimes you're really up and happy and easily provoked for a few days, and sometimes you're really tired and sad. Hans Christian Andersen and Abraham Lincoln are said to have had it. But of course, you could just be like Beyonce, who has an alterego named Sasha that she taps into when she performs or goes on stage to give her confidence. But mostly I think you sound normal.

Thats absolutely normal, just as long as your personalities dont have names and fight for control of your body.
