His life produced the entire Bible by action, example and inspiration. He was the Word before He was made flesh and He is still the Word today.
Over time to the present there is no error in the Word; if it is revealed to you as an open and living Book in Oct. 2006. God's Word needs no interpretation. It interprets itself by the Holy Spirit and is consistent from Genesis to Revelation.
When people try to interpret God's Word, according to their own thinking, they end up with many gross errors. The Spirit of Truth, which is given to us, leads us into and opens the Word to us.
The Spirit must agree with both the Old Testament and the New Testament. This three fold check also allows those who walk in the Spirit to judge the voices of prophets, teachers and religious spirits that we hear in this world.
The problem is not making sure of the New Testament but sorting out what all the "experts" and religious "spirits" claim for and about the Word of God.
There is a battle between light and darkness which surrounds the Word of God. The problem is not academic by any means. The answer to your several questions depends on revelation more than anything.
If you are just a subscriber to the Christian religion, revelation may not do you much good. A little faith might be necessary. You say faith is not a good answer? God says it is. Not faith as a religious system; but as a human sense which goes beyond belief.

Gospel means "good news." Jesus didn't have any good news to report. He was born in a barn while his mother was going to pay her taxes. Then he disappeared for twelve years. Was he in a coma? Next we find him chatting with the rabbis, without telling his rents where he was - did he get grounded? For twenty years? Or was he back in that coma again? Then he resurfaces - he gets the religious leaders mad at him, the Romans are upset with his wild-eyed antics, people are always pulling at his hem as if he were Elvis. Not an easy life. Then one of his good buddies turns him over to the authorities. They proceed to make fun of him and to torture him. Finally, they nail him up to die a painful death of suffocation. Now I ask you - is there a gospel in there?
Now that you have brought the idea to consciousness, it's only a matter of time before the gospel according to Jesus will be found. I'll wager seven months. ;-)

many consider it very likely that there is a gospel that is strictly jesus's own words, that was used as a reference of sorts for the others.
theres a theoretical "Gospel of Q" that some theorize as existing that would have been (Q stands for Quelle, meaning Source)
one that is a Apocryphal book, that some consider the closest to what would be such a book, is whats been coined the Gospel of Phillip, (linked below)
actually the movie Stigmata goes into this a bit, if you haven't seen it, you should. its very good, of course its just a movie, but it has some interesting stuff.

Jesus not writing anything down suggests that we should be acting more and reading and speculating less. I have long believed that Jesus' message was much simpler than the Church has made it out to be. Exceedingly easy to understand, exceedingly difficult to follow:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself. Help the poor. Heal the sick.
The message, spoken and lived, was simple. Clear. There was no need to write it down. You don't need to read thousands of pages; you don't need a degree in theology to understand Jesus' message.

John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God." John 1:3 "All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made." Jesus is the author of the Bible (written word).

KC Superstar - he spent oh, 33 years without that problem, but didn't write anything down isn't that a little weird?
I think there was once a human Jesus. How he became a god was the work of those that actually wrote the New Testament.

God doesnt write, He makes others write....
He set an example for all of us to live and setting an example is not an easy joke. Just try it and you'll know just how difficult it is.
He did not come to this world to write an autobiography of sorts.
The Bhagavat Gita was not written by Lord Krishna nor was the Quran written by Allah. Gods dont write, they only show us the way.

We can't be sure the writers were accurate,it is simply a mystery, and faith is the only answer you will get.

God inspired each writer what should be written.Jesus came to save man, not to start a book club with book signings.

He wasn't into organised religion in any particular way, he just wanted people to be good to one and other. To be honest I think alot of 'what Jesus said' was probably just words put into his mouth.
