How long do you think my tree will last? I was going to put up 2 trees one up stairs and one in the foyer. Now I'm thinking bad idea.
What do you think?

I've always had a live tree and cats. Not a problem.
Put the tree up but undecorated for a day or so. Shoo them away and treat them the same as you would to discourage them off of other places they are forbidden to be on.
If you catch them climbing, just bring them down, telling them no. Use a water spray to reinforce the tree is not a comfortable place for them to be. Either put your best decorations up high or wait to be sure they won't be climbing it. If they tend to chew on the electric lights, use the stuff petshops sell to discourage that behavior.
Cover the tree water with saran wrap or somehow seal the bowl to keep them from drinking the water if you add any type of preservative to the water.
Mine would get bored after a day of exploring and just lay under the tree w the presents. I avoided dangling any ornaments from the bottom branches- too much temptation right at eye level.

Anchor the tree(s) to the surrounding walls with fishing line. Tie the line to the trunk of the tree in like 4 places and secure the other end to the wall with thumbtacks. I'd place the tree(s) in a corner to add stability. Make sure you use really good stands. Also, try spraying "No Go" around the base of the tree. It has a really foul smell for cats but not for humans, and it discourages them from getting near enough to climb. You can find it at nearly any pet supply store. Keep a spray bottle of water near the tree and spray the cats whenever you catch them near it. They'll catch on soon.

I have 6 cats and have had a Christmas tree every year with little to no problem. I get real trees every year...for the most part the cats seem to behave. But I do "toddler proof" them. The bottom row of branches doesn't generally get decorated. I keep my eyes on the cats and shoo them away when I catch them...I think the funniest thing I've had happen is coming home from work to find my siamese sleeping amongst the branches.

It is probably a bad idea. When my cat was young she used to climb the christmas tree everyday. Luckily she was not hurt. If you absolutely insist on getting a tree, tie the top of the tree to a fishing string, and somehow secure it to the ceiling so that the tree will not tip over.

I don't know if that would be such a good idea. Our cat even tries to knock down our fake one (not on purpose). They get really excited by the new edition and love hiding underneath it. Sometimes they get over excited and try to climb up or eat the tree. If you really want to have a tree, maybe put it someplace the cats cannot get to. Also be careful if you like to put presents under the tree because they will most likely try to eat the packaging and ribbon! :-D

NO!!! second tree is a very bad idea in my opinion! especially if they're kittens!!

I'm in the same boat you're in!! this Xmas will be my male kittens first (he's 7 mths). my 2 yr. old female doesn't mess with anything. ever. she just sleeps under the Xmas tree all day long!!

I go all out for Xmas around my house!! there's Xmas stuff hanging from every corner in each room!!!

I'm really nervous to see what he's going to be up to when he finally sees an 8 ft. fat green thing in the middle of the living room and four or five stockings hanging from my mantle.

God help my house this December!!! LOL!

P.S. my kitten is completly WILD!!!!

Well make sure they do not drink the water so there will be some left for the tree. What I do is I water it alot but you may not like watering it so much. I dont really care for it but, Thats just my opinon. It will be so much fun haveing Christmas with your pets! Good Luck with the tree!

I dont really think it will be a good idea. They are kittens . And they might want to climb it and break things. Or get sick if they eat the pines on the tree.Wait until thier older.Or get a fake tree.

My housemate and I use a tabletop tree rather than a full-size tree, so that we don't have 'tree destruction' incidents...and it's cute that Tika sleeps next to it sometimes.

Now that I have a digital camera, that seems like a perfect photo opportunity...to use on my Christmas cards.
