It is amazing how many people teach their children about a virgin birth, a fellow walking on water, and a place like Hell, and yet who become upset at books involving "magic"
Hey, presto: the water is wine...
Hey, presto: the boy has a wand

I can't speak to what God thinks is right. If a person has a strong belief system in place, then a Harry Potter movie is fun and fiction. I personally am a big fan of Charmed and Buffy the Vampire Slayer - but my belief system is mature and I will not be influenced by those things.
But sometimes small children cannot distinguish what is real from what is fiction - hence the nightmares and scary thoughts about monsters under the bed.
Small children should not be allowed to watch those kinds of movies without parental commentary - and certainly not the news.
But if an adult enjoys those movies, why not?

I think the Harry Potter movies and books are great fun. I am not of the belief that movies, music, and books with "wizards" are evil or satanic. They're FICTION. Nor do any of these forms of entertainment make people turn into criminals later in life. It's easy to blame a book, music, or a movie for criminal behavior, a different religious choice, or whatnot. Why not lay the blame squarely where it belongs? The individual. We're such a blameless society. It's always someone else's or something else's fault.
When in actuality - for criminals - it's probably a combination of their genetic predisposition and upbringing.
For those who make a different religious choice - that's an individual choice.

watching movies for entertainment purposes is what the movie industry is all about. but also even in going to watch movies for relaxation one might pick up something of value. as an example in the movie " The Shadow " there was a line " the clouded mind sees nothing " which made me start thinking about things a little differently.

No it will never make you a bad person but it does introduce bad thoughts. Just like any other scary movie, that is why I dont watch them anymore. (although i would watch harry potter over a vampire movie any night) no i do not watch the news it is biased. you can no longer trust it. i read what happens, but not all the time. i dont like to be swayed and controlled by what society tells me i should and should not do. i want to hear the truth and hearing the gospel and knowing what i should be doing to battle against evil instead of reviling in it is what i would rather do.

I find it hard to understand why you even ask the question. Of course there will always be christians (and others) who will feel the need to find something 'wrong' with just about anything. But how does that affect you? If you live to be 80, you will still be finding people who feel bad about something you feel is alright. But is that a really big problem for you? If it is, I'm afraid you are in for a life of frustration.

Good grief no! I am a Christian and I love Harry Potter. Its on my Christmas wish list. No, I do not watch the news at night. To me the news is one hell of alot worse then a lot of horror movies.

No. Entertainment won't make you a bad person. But I still think it's important to keep tabs on what we let into our minds and what we allow ourselves to believe. I know grown people who have learned to have romantic ideas about violent behavior because of seeing a lot of romanticized violence in movies. Some people are more impressionable than others.

The problem is not in the movie or in whatever you see. The problem is how your mind elaborate what your eyes see. So if your insight is simple, your whole body will be lightened and if your insight is bad or evil your body will be darkened. Good and bad are two faces of one coin. And it is up to you which face you are going to look at. Finally good and bad are proportional attributes; what might be good for you at a certain time can be bad for me at that certain time and vice verse. And what might be bad for you now can be good for you tomorrow and so on. It is your reflection on the issue that matters

adults watch the news yes, but as for children, not all things are in best interest for them and as adults/ parents we are in control of what they watch. as adults we are in control of what we watch. as adults we can make better decisons when we see a movie or news cast but children can interpret many diff things from them and it is our adult/parent job to make sure they are not affected in a negative way from them. You do make a good point but children are not adults and need postiive direction--- hope that helps. make you a bad person no but children can lern things in a negative way then adults from those movies---
