You need to work up to a fitness regime slowly. Start off with walking and get yourself into a good pace. If your knee allows for it, build this up to running as this will strengthen your joints and definitely improve your overall fitness.

When embarking on your fitness routine, you need food that will fuel your activity so play it smart. Find a balance of carbs, protein, fats and all the necessary nutrients. Snacks such as yogurt and muesli bars and walnuts and bananas are very good for energy both before and after your workout. I suggest you find a website that will be able to calculate the amount of calories necessary for your height and weight, and will also take into consideration your level of activity.

Also, get a good amount of sleep for an overall feeling of well being for both your physical and school life.

Good luck!

Some yoga might be beneficial, I'm not sure if you can do all but some could be helpful. Light walking, try sitting in a chair with no arms and going from left to right and slide back and forth. It helps work the abs. You definitely want to cut out fast food, junk food and greasy foods. Replace them with fruits, veggies and stuff. They have lo-cal dips and dressings. Salad, special k and water. And if your not a fan of water you can spruce it up with lemon or lime.
