I don't know, ask the atheists. Usually when they bash "religious" people for being stupid, it is obvious from the context & content of their rhetorical questions that by "religious" they actually mean "Christian". I don't see then picking on any other group (but maybe that's just my perception).

"god" is not "God" is though sometimes. I more associate God with the Jewish people somtimes they are his chosen heritage. I think people associate Jesus with Christians definitely.
But um you can believe in God yes but getting to know him is the real fun. In the Bible it says if you do not know Jesus Christ you do not know God either. It says if you proclaim to know God or the Father and you do not know Jesus then you are committing the sin of idolatory. That is when you make up a god in your mind to suit yourself. A God that suits all you likes and dislikes is probably not the one tru God. What happens when you become saved is stuff you may really have liked before you no longer like because you truly do know God then and God goes against your flesh desires. That is asure way to know you know God. When things that your flesh may want you hear in the back of your head "Now child you know that is wrong" If God agrees with everything you do then you probably don't the one true God. He disagrees with a lot of stuff I do. But forgiveness is great and he is a merciful God.

I love you in truth,

Because Christianity dominates most of the "civilized" world. But your right Christians do no have a claim to the word god, many religions believe in a god.

God is not only associated with Christians. Did you forget Jews and Muslims?
And in reponse to the first answer: "God" is not a name. The "name" of the Christian God is Father, Jesus or the Holy Spirit.

That is a good question! I think it might come from the fact that originally, when Christianity started out, it was the religion at that time in which the followers believed in only one God.
Another solution could be that possible other religions have different names for their God, such as Allah, which they use instead of "God".

We are for God's truth for one, and I know that even other believers that are not christians are associated with God so why rule out christians only? There are so many who are assocaited with God not just Christians!

Because 1 out of every 3 people in the world is a Christian. In the rural midwest town I live in , Christians are the only theists people know. There aren't any Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, Baha'is, or unreligious theists here.

The word Christian means Christ follower. Therefore, since Jesus Christ was the son of God many assume it is one. Not all people who believe there is a God believe Jesus was the son of God.

There is only ONE God, and that is God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit. And that is scripture.

So, all the other religions worship false gods.
