Do you mean RAM or hard drive? On consumer PCs or workstations/servers?

It is a bit difficult to answer because of customization that allows all kinds of configurations.

However, using an XP installed 32-bit PC as a baseline, 4GB for RAM and 400GB for hard drive probably is the top end of the spec. Depending on the available slots, there may be room for more.

every computer has a gig limit.
the amount of space on your drives totalled if you have two
right click your c drive in my computer and check the properties there you are your limit

No limit. You can get about 3 maximum slots in the computer, buy 600GB each, and you have 1.8TB, connect 6 more 100GB each externatls, to 6 USb ports, and you have 2.6TB. Get more USb ports, add more, etc...
