I love to go to the gym and work out. A few times I have tried yoga and pilates. Each time I have to admit the stretching feels good and it's relaxing, but I wonder does it do anything for you? I mean I don't get sore or even break a sweat as much as I try. It makes me feel like I've wasted my time. Is there anyone who can tell me of any real health or fitness benefits they've experienced from doing yoga or pilates over time? Will it do anything, or am I just wasting my time?

It tones your muscles and relaxes your body. You're not wasting time with it.
The relaxation is good.

Not only do they both feel good and therefore are good for your general health but they both have loads of extra benefits. Pilates strengthens the core of your body - which means you have better posture - and as a side effect of that - less digesitive issues. Yoga's benefits are endless. If you're interested check out Yoga Journal's website (www.yogajournal.com). They list the additional benefits of each pose (asana)!

Why is it a waste of time to feel good and relax?

Yoga cleans out your nadiis so your energy flows better, and keeps your organs healthy. Also helps you slow down. If you want aerobics, do something else.

Yoga and pilates help you with flexablity and to relax. For the most part, they don't help you lose weight.

I have never done pilates, but I have heard many people say that it helps with your posture and decreases lower back pain. One person said they had grown 2 inches. It wasn't actual growth, but they're spine had been aligned and they were straighter.

I've never done it, but from talking to people that have, it's good for stretching and such. You're not going to get a cardio workout from it, but it'll make you more limber.

i go to the gym and attend those types of classes too. if you speak to the instructor tell her you are not finding it challenging enough and he/she can move you onto some harder work for you. i would definately keep going. its worth it.
