So, ever since my sister-in-law had my nephew (Sep. 26th), she's been a brat. She doesn't let ANYONE hold him....I hardly see my brother hold his child. She doesn't talk to me, or my mom. They live with us. She's gotten so weird and its annoying me! When I was holding him like one time, she said "Did you wash your hands?" And then she took him from me. Its weird because she doesn't ask my brother if he washed his hands before he (on the rare occasion) gets to hold him. She's psycho!! She doesn't let my mom hold her grandson ever!!!!

What does this sound like to you?

It sounds like she is a very over protective new mom
It is also probably hard for her to let it go she will
just be patient
maybe very nicely tell her that you have washed your hands and put on a clean shirt and that you will be careful could you please hold your nephew

maybe if everyone assures her that she is doing a good job and that you all will respect her wishes to wash up before you hold the baby she will get more comfortable with it

give her a month and it will change more and more everyday

She sounds like a typical first time mother to me. She will relax as time goes by. She is just being a little paranoid about the baby. It happens to a lot of first timers. Be patient and understanding and offer to help with things besides the baby, like laundry, dishes or other housework. You can offer to watch the baby while she takes a bath or a nap, but remember, she may say no. What she is doing is quite common and it should get better once she becomes more comfortable with her role as a mother and she learns that her son won't break or self-destruct.

Congratulations on the new baby. Best of luck to you all.

Sounds like she is very stressed out mom that is concerned about her baby catching germs- I would not want people in his face either- it is a good idea to let his immune system build up- it is not good to ill for such a young baby-she may be just a little to over protective- unless he has immune system issues, lung or other health issues-they need a place of their own- how about a hud apartment- D

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or could also be a manifestation of post partum depression. If she doesn't start lightening up on her own (in about a month), your brother should discuss it with the pediatrician.
