AS a native Texan. A great grandchild of an American immigrant from Ireland. Most people do not understand, truly understand that a better life is worth dying for and many people can relate to this....yet most do not have the luxury of time or money to read this on the PC in the comfort of their own home.
The national security is an issue. Yet this is not the real issue here- illegal aliens (american slaves) need to have more rights than murderers. Which they don't. Most of these people are hard working families that really want a better life. The American dream. So we need to ADD these people into our system legally, establish taxes and programs to service our newest Americans.
I hope that you research the issue much more than listening to the "stupid" media that puts "Nichol Richey on the same headlines" with serious issues like our "civil war" over our Mexican border and the several hundred years old working relationship. FDR had a wonderful program during the war and it was disbanded because, it was a "not an issue". Now our national safety is threatened, so we need to revamp it for these modern time and programs. Yet most politicians and big business are lining their pockets by "outsourcing American jobs". We have cut our own throat.
The world sees us as " Arrogant American". Most countries speak several languages and have fundamentally achieved a healthy acceptance of other cultures. It is obvious you have never traveled over seas by your broad "general statements" and really never experienced the "global community" and how it works.
Unless you are a legal voter I strongly feel that opinions should only be expressed with an action and solution. So your comments are immature and ill informed at best. There is no amnesty for Mexicans, there is only application for citizenship or "alien resident" status. Your behavior and "smart mexican" comment is highly offensive. Things like that would get you hurt or even killed little girl in the streets of LA, Miami or Houston. This topic is "too hot" for such flippant comments!
Fac is there are more American people on welfare [needs serious reform] that are generations of people that are destroying our economy. That is the much more serious issue. Katrina was a eye-opener regarding the "welfare state" and it was not the flood of water that was the problem that was the symptom.
So as Bush does his "smoke and mirror" act over the immigration issue with "The fence", the issues are long from solved. He was the guy behind all the reform that cause these issues to begin with. Concern yourself with the facts. 9/11 is a reminder that Americans are vundrable and we need to be better prepared and savor our blessed lives. Not "stop" being American, be more global.... the world is coming to us. What a blessing that is!

I think that the point is, they are ILLEGAL. Not too hard to understand that word. The word is not the same as racist or bigot. It is talking about a person, or an act, that is against the law. As far as the fellow that was talking about the "illegal" whites, there may be a few, but, they are not the ones in the thousands that are affecting our welfare system that is already in trouble. And, most of those people that I suspect he is talking about, got here with a passport and visa that probably expired and could be renewed easily. They are ILLEGAL and need to remedy that. Most will. The majority of the ILLEGAL people that are being talked about on these boards, do not wish to become LEGAL, because that would be too difficult or impossible as they have problems back home that will preclude them from getting the proper documents. The word ILLEGAL again, only has one meaning and racism or bigotry are not in there.

We all understand what the word illegal means, we just don't agree on what to do about it. You people take pride and feel on top of the hill saying "deport them all for their crime!" But what you don't realize is that deporting twelve million people never was, never is, and never will be the solution. There are people who cause trouble, of course, but those who are willing to adapt to the country and pay the fines for their illegal status should be allowed to stay. Deporting them all will only provoke a reaction in their countries which will make them be in a lot worse of a situation and then we will have twice as many people coming illegaly into the country.
You say that it would be rewarding them for their crime? Not really, it isn't that bad of a crime except they didn't come in as it should've been. They did not harm anybody while crossing the border, they didn't steal anything, or anything of that sort. Those who came here looking to take advantage of the system by stealing welfare and getting free service SHOULD BE DEPORTED. But you must realize that we can't use syllogism with this because not all illegals do the same thing. It's actually a minority who fulfills the stereotype of an illegal created by the media.

They do not want to hear about illegal. They have all sorts of rationalizations as to why it is OK for THEM to break the law, but none of it makes any sense. Because they have no real valid arguments, they just don't want to hear it.
I would say to keep speaking out against them , never stop, and maybe someday Congress will get the message. After all it is Congress that matters, not the illegals. You can bark at the illegals all day long and it makes no difference. Spend your time barking at your representatives in Congress instead.
I clean my own toilet. I don't need or want some damned illegal to do it. As for the stupid idiot above me, human dignity and eleven million has nothing to do with it. That is a stupid response.

I may not agree with many of these people but they do understand the meaning of I L L E G A L. They also have the ability to think more deeply about this issue and to realize that there are many, many facets to it. In the midst of what you call blah blah and I call reasonable discourse between people with two perspectives are many serious issues. Neither removing the illegals nor allowing them amnesty will be all beneficial or all harmful.

Is it me, or do you not understand the word R-A-C-I-S-T?
There are somewhere between 11 and 12 million illegal immigrants in this country. Best estimate is that about 1/4th of those are from Mexico. So why do you go on about Mexicans? Could it be...RACISM? What about the 2-4 million (just as many as there are mexican) white-european illegals? Guess you don't care about them, 'cause they look like you do. 'Cause some of them speak English.
Oh, and I have news for you -- it was BUSH who proposed amnesty and citizenship.
Look, you're not going to solve the problem by screaming racist comments. So be constructive or stay out of the issue.

I hope that when you say these things you are not suggesting that all Mexicans are illegal or a drain on our system...you did call them mexican-things and thats just a rude derogatory statement that should be left in the 1800's. I agree that illegals are illegal but that is no reason to put down all Mexicans because many that are in our country legally work very hard.

Girl, I'm in your corner with this one. What part of ILLEGAL does everyone not understand?
I'm all for immigration. But there is a right and a wrong way to do it. Sneaking across the border and working without paying taxes, abusing our hospital emergency rooms is ridiculous.
You know, we had to fight like fanatics to free OUR country and hundreds of thousands died. Why don't Mexicans fight for their own country instead of sneaking over here for a free ride?

picture this, all u.s. citizens flood across the border into mexico. we apply all the same basic principles this great nation was founded on. as this is being done all the population of mexico comes here. after a few years mexico becomes a superpower. during this time the u.s. steeply declines and now is what mexico used to be. will all the population of mexico want to return to mexico or will they knuckle down and rebuild the u.s. to its former prominance? just a little food for thought.
