guys...what does this mean? guy i've been dating for 1 year doesn't want to commit but tells me that if i get pregnant he wants to settle down and try to be a family. so why can't he just settle now? i'm not talking about marriage, but at least a committed relationship? what's up with him?

He has the "Have his cake and eat it too" complex. or maybe he is scared. Find out if he has been burned before. Maybe he wants you to get pregnant so he feels like he HAS to settle down and commit. I dont preach ultimatums, but maybe you can express your desire to commit and if he doesnt find someone else. Truely he may run once your pregnant. Committing to a family is a bigger responsibility than committing to one person.

I don't know but he has no idea what he's talking about. People who think that bringing a baby into a picture will help the relationship are wrong. Does he understand that if you get pregnant and things don't work, he'll be paying child support for that kid until it's 18? Looks like you both need to slow down.

That's stupid. This guy should love you for you, no matter if you bear his child or not. If he's willing to settle down, but only if you have a baby, that means he's willing to put you through a lot of pain. I'd either see a counselor, or preferably, I'd like to see you leave that jerk.

He obviously doesn't want to commit because he wants to be a free man in a sense, still doing things he wouldn't do if he committed to you.

a baby will trap him and if he's not commited now I doubt he will be later. I don't even think that he's going to be responsible even if you did have a kid with him.
