Exercise should be done every other day , not every day.
Reason why is the muscles that you want to build up are actually sore from the exercise in itself. Giving yourself the day inbetween helps the muscle heal , then when you get back into it again your muscle will respond better and with enough repetitive exercise in this way, it will work.

TOO MUCH. 100 twice a day is way too much. You will get better results and feel better if you scale back to focusing on the abs for 10 minutes 2 times a week. Then one more time do 100 situps in under 3 minutes. So you will have 3 ab work outs total. Varry the time and the work out and you will feel better and see better results. Don't forget to run to really see those abs.

Just wanted to add if you are doing 100 twice a day to get sore, you are probably not doing them right. I may be wrong tho. but if you have not had someone show you the proper form of a situp then i would do some research on it. also if you get bored from situps i would suggest pilates they are different moves that WORK the abdominals without taking the time to do 100 sit ups. Good luck!

The first poster is exactly right. You have to give your muscles time to rebuild themselves. This is the whole point of strength or power training. Give yourself three or four days at this point to recover, then you can start again. I'd slow it down to 100 a day though, then, when you have no more soreness, add another 25. Continue doing 125 until again, no more soreness. Then add another 25. Keep doing this till you meet your goal of 200. Btw, don't do anymore than 200 every other day. It defeats the purpose. Good luck!

the question would be how long have you been doing this? and if its your abdominal muscles that are hurting and not your actual insides.
being sore is normal during the 1st week or 1st couple of days that you've been working out.
it helps placing your fingers on your abs while youre working out making sure your ab muscles are contracting and that youre not using your back and/or neck to do the sit ups.

It's great to be sore, but you need to let your body recover before you exercise a certain muscle again (it's a waste of time to break them down without letting them build back up). I would suggest doing more, just every other day.

a combination of too many and your body getting used to the new exercise. don't do so many. do sets of 20 or so. then come back and do another set later on. give your body a chance to rest

You are just sore, it is normal, you will learn to love the pain, it will be the reason to get in the gym, at least it is for me.
