I haven't had any kind of chemical in my hair for almost a year now. So i'm kinda in between going back to chemically processed hair or getting my hair twisted. I kinda figured that I could start twisting it on my own, so my question is how and what products to use and if you have any websites pertaining to the subject i'd appreciate it.

Don't listen to the negative talk. Natural is the way to go. I started growing my perm out last year. I have Sister Locks now. You don't have to completely grow your perm out to get them, but I recently cut the rest of my perm out. Sister Locks are very different from dreads, they are more structured and very versatile. Check out the website @ www.sisterlocks.com. I must warn you that they are a commitment, but you will love them. GET LOCKED, GET FREEDOM!

Keep in mind that there's a difference between Locs and Dreads.
Dreads are naturally grown. No chemicals, no maintenence. True Rasta's grow their hair this way for religious reasons. If you do not practice this as a lifestyle then what you really want are Locs. Locs are the same as Dreads in the way that the hair does the same thing (loc together) but locs are maintained to look fashionable. Twisted at the roots to make scalp visible and and parts are neat and more tidy and kept. Check out this web site. Knottyboy.com for facts and products.
Make sure it's what you want either way.

EVERYONE has Dreads! It's so common that it's un-cool! And there are a lot of people (Vancouver, BC) who do NOT keep up the look. They make it go ratty which makes it look un-clean!
I say stick with the Natural Twist look. Other than oiling the roots, use a moisturizer like the Wave Nouveau brand to keep it up!
Good luck!

Growing twist is very inexpensive to maintain, easy to do , and you would only have to get your hair done once a month. I would recommend the Loc a Fella made by razac. You can also check out the website www.razacproducts.com

It's so funny how all these people make assumptions about dreads and don't know a damn thing about them. Make sure you do plenty of research before and know what you are getting into. Make you you learn how to properly maintain them. Contrary to popular belief dreads can be unlocked without cutting. It takes a lot of patience and conditioner. But if can be done.

Something wrong with your natural hair? Dreads literally stink and are too ugly for words unless on a Rasta.

Don't get dreads. They're usually nasty-looking, even if it's really clean. Get thin braids instead. They look ultra-sexy.
