I am a stylist and it sounds like to me that you have some hair damage. What you need is a good acidifying conditioner for starters. Try Nexxus Phyto Organics Nectaress. Then, I would use the Nexxus Phyto Organics OmniStyler. It is a styling lotion formulated to help improve the tightness of the curl and control frizz. It is GREAT for wet looks. It also has some protein in the formula so it will help repair any damage in your hair.
Also, using a defuser on your blow dryer might help with the curl retention and help prevent your hair going frizzy.

Hey..from what it sounds like i kinda have the same hair style as you...i have had the same trouble so many times..seeing all those people with fabulously straight hair. I have lost the battle with the straighteners once and for all and i quite like my hair now....my friend gave me a tip. Wash your hair and then towel dry it as much as possible..then add a simple curl volumising mousse and scrunch the hair...after this blow dry but not to excess otherwise, well in my case, my hair generally goes frizzy. It leaves me with subtle curls...to add more curls simply tong parts of the hair..you can pick up some curling tongs, babyliss, i think for under £10 and they work as good as any other ones!! Hope that helps!! :):)

You should probably get curlers called remington solutions at a local hair store cause they leave your hair very curly for a long time and then after your done apply some hairspray to make it look wet, trust me your hair will look great
You should get these curlers called Remington Solutions at a pharmacy or something, then afterwards apply some hairspray and it will give it that wet look. P.S. YOUR HAIR WILL LOOK GREAT.

once it's all nice and damp,
rub some curling moose in your hair equally.
buy a nice and handy diffuser!
professional ones are the way to go!
bend over and diffuse away your hair upside down.
don't dry it completely.
leave it to be about 80% dry.
try buying some frizzy go away stuff too!
oh also, spray on some hairspray for curls.
it's amazing stuff.
you can add a bit more hair moose to soften it a bit too!
remember to take your time,
hair only looks amazing if you give it your 100% attention.

Product, product, product. Find a product (I use Aveda smoothing fluid and Be Curly mixed) that you like that will "enhance" curl. When you come out of the shower, towel dry your hair and apply product. Scrunch the product into your hair-the more you scrunch the curlier it'll get. Also, there is what is called a diffuser. It's an attatchment for your blowdryer and if you use that on your hair as you scrunch,scrunch,scrunch---you're good to go. :)

Use a difissuer on your hairdryer with teeth. The trick is to dry it (w/out touching it; let the difissuer do its job) about 80% dry then spray it with spray. A good pre dry spray is Redken Fresh Curls Curl Boost Spray. The whole line is really good!!!

Flat iron or straighten your hair. Then curl it. Never use gel or hairspray with curls (only to hold it in place.... if you curl after, it won't work right!!).
