My son likes to line things up, like 10-15 cars in a row, he has done this since he was old enough to walk (about 1yr) now my aunt told me that this can be a sign of something mentally wrong with him, he is normal in all aspects and in some he is advanced. Has anyone had experience with this, good or bad.

don't listen to your aunt that's just dumb, he's two and playing with his toys. there's nothing wrong with that my two year old doesn't do that yet but i would take it as a sign that he's really smart an patient. I don't know any two year old that will sit long enough to line cars up. My six year old does it, but my two year old won't sit long enough to put three cars together. so consider yourself lucky, you might have a genius on your hands

what a lovely aunt to tell you your baby is possibly a nut job. she's a real peach. there is probably nada wrong with him. mention it to his pediatrician at his next sick or wellness visit or if you're really worried call the office and run it past the nurse.

i am assuming he does other things during the day and not just lining cars up all day long.

kids like to make sense of their world which is why they have toys for fitting different shapes into their corresponding wholes. And if your kid has ever been in a car in his life he may be aware of the fact that when you see 12 or 15 cars out and about they are usually in a line(driving/parked)

I'd get a new aunt.

Tell your aunt to PI$S OFF. If he's normal, he's normal. Your Aunt watches too much T.V that behaviour was on Criminal Intent - A fictitious cop show.

I think your son is showing signs of being completely normal but check this out.

I was one of those children who would line toys up from biggest to smallest at home, in the doctors office and i turned out fine. I am just a very clean and organized person. I do not have OCD but i do take pride in cleaning and use it as a stress relief. I do not think there is anything wrong with him.

my daughter was similar, ( she is now 4yrs old) she would "arrange" blocks or whatever else she had happened to be playing with. Now she is more advanced and she actually builds things with blocks. I don't think your son has a mental disorder... my guess would be that he is stimulating his motor skills and learning to "organizational skills"{so to speak} I think you will find in the future that he is perfectly normal. He's act the stage were his personality is developing and some skills may come more naturally to him and show in his behavior first. GOOD LUCK!

Most likely there is nothing wrong with him. I wouldnt be too worried about it. Does he do this with everything? Does everything have to be in perfect order? If so, he may have early OCD, which I have never heard of, but who knows. Autism is a thought, but a very unlikely one if you say he is fine in every other aspect. At 2 he should still be seeing a pediatrician somewhat on a regual basis, talk to his doctor at the next appointment if it really concerns you.

Your son is perfectly normal. My doctor gives me this things called ASQ (Ages & Stages Questionnaires) where you answer a few questions about how your child is developing and one of the most recent questions is whether or not the child has started lining things up, and it is on the 22mo questinnaire so I would not be worried.

I have to say that if you have no other concerns than him lining things up, consider that he already shows sign of good organizational skills. If his actions become repetitive and rigid, you might want to begin watching more closely. Will he let you help him line up his cars? From what you write, "Don't worry, Be happy".

Oh my god, there is absolutely nothing wrong with your little one, ask your aunt where she got this info from!!!! I have 4 children and my youngest is 2 and he is lining up match box cars all the time, Lego's, spoons etc...that is kind of weird that your aunt would say that, with no disrespect what type of relationship do you have with her?

Your aunt may be referring to autism, children with this condition have this tendency. Research has shown that ALL people have 'some' autistic tendencies...so unless you get a diagnosis from his pediatrician I wouldn't stress over it. My now eight year old daughter used to have a collection of Hotwheels (about 100 of them) that she used to line up by color and it seemed that she always had them in the exact order but her pediatrician said it was normal, not to worry unless she gets unconsolably upset when the order of this was disturbed. Mention it at your next pediatrician appointment...hopefully that will put your mind at ease.
