I have a doberman of my own that smiles. They do it on their own. I have raised dobermans for many years now, found that some will do it , and some won't. The one I have now, only does it when she is very happy.

I have had 5 Dobes and only 2 actually showed teeth to smile. I believe its a thing they either do or don't do. Besides, every Dobe smiles...all in different yet lovable ways.

There are ways to teach your dog to do this but I am not sure how. My dog does all sorts of silly things I have tought her but it all takes time patience and consistancy. Try getting a book from your local library on training dogs to do tricks.

My mutt started smiling on his own, and we just re-enforced it with lots of praise and laughter. It got to the point where he would smile on command.
Maybe you could show your teeth and smile at him/her?? Saying "Smile"?? Doggy-see, doggy-do?? LOL
