My mom (who is about 45) has really rotton teeth, and half of them are gone, so she wants to just get dentures. But our dentist (who happens to be a friend also) will not let her. Even though she has like 2 bridges, and only has a few of her teeth, not any of her molars! I think that you should fix your teeth. If my dentist won't let my mom get dentures yet, then you shouldn't. But it is all up to you!

Well I was in the same situation as you. It was gonna cost 25 grand to fix my teeth. Since i'm so young I don't have that type of cash laying around, I had to go the denture route. I'm 25 by the way. If you can save your teeth, DO IT. Its not as bad as everyone says about dentures. I can eat everything that I want to now except for corn on the cob. I can actually eat more now than before I had my dentures. Most bad things you hear are from people who don't have them and they so called heard it from someone else that its bad, so how the hell do they know what its like. But only do the dentures if its your last option. Try to save what you can. But also remember, dental work is not guarnateed and can go bad in a couple of years and then you have to pay more $$$$$ to get dentures done. Your gonna have to think about this one alot and choose the route thats best for YOU. Good luck.

Oh and don't pay attention to that Dr. Spillers website link crap. That is a pretty crappy site to go to.

I think it is a wonderful idea to get dentures at 23! Especially if you want to spend the next sixty something years wearing thick pieces of acrylic in your mouth, not being able to taste your food and be worried that if you laugh too hard or eat the wrong thing in public that your teeth might pop out! I don't even think that is a question that you should be considering! There is no reason to do all of your treatment at once (especially the braces). Ask your dentist for alternative treatment plans. Start with the most important things first (ie. removing decay and infection). Worry about stabilizing your teeth first, then worry about the esthetics! At 23, think about what your girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/significant other would think when you have to take your teeth out at night and place them in a cup next to the bed!

The best scenario is to always restore your existing teeth, once they are gone, they are gone. They don't grow back like hair or nails. Take care of the necessary problems first. Braces and things of that nature can wait. If you take it one step at a time, it won't seem so overwhelming.

Dentures are very hard to transition to and should only be used in extreme cases. Upper dentures usually fit pretty well in time, but lower dentures do not. They do not build suction like the uppers do, they kinda "float". Please consider fixing your teeth, you will be happy you did.

Email me if you have any questions. Good luck!

I'm 24 and I didn't have the $20,000. to spend and no insurance so I went for the dentures when I was still in high school. I've never been sorry, but my teeth were really bad and half were gone already. Your case might be different so think about it carefully and do your homework. Like they say, once your teeth are gone there's no going back and changing your mind.

Dentures at 23? Oh my gosh! Do you realise what will happen to your jaws without the roots of your teeth. Your face will develop a very old look as the bone will begin to deteriorate and your nose will begin to almost touch your chin.

Then after you read it think again about getting dentures. $20,000 is an investment in your life. You have way tooooooooo many years ahead of you to not have your own teeth. I have implants and I am 47 and wouldn't want dentures! I didn't want my bones to deteriorate either at my age.

First getting Dentures is a long process, infact you might have to walk around toothless for a little while since it takes sometime for them to take an impression of your teeth, sending it off then getting the dentures... Braces are a better choice and cheaper in the long run. A pair of dentures arnt cheap and they dont last forever

I'm a strong beliver in fixing your own teath. Dentures at 23 is way to young. Do the neccessary things first: Fillings, and cleanings, to elieviate pain, then do the cosmetic things like braces, and maybe filling in some chips or scratches.

My teeth are horrible and always have been even since I was little. I have always brushed and tried to take care of my teeth, but no matter what i have done they chip and break. If i had 20,000 to fix my teeth i would defiantly just get dentures and be done with the my brittle and pain full mouth of teeth(whats left of them). So if there is and extra 20,000 laying around just let me know.

Your question is not well explained. But at 23 you should not even be thinking of dentures. Go for the improvement of health of your original teeth, step-by-step as per the blue print your dentist might have suggested. I am sure you have not been adviced to spend all that money in one go. Consider spending all that money in a phased manner, as investment in your overall health. No shortcuts, dear. Good luck.
