Current thoughts are Sigma 18-50 f2.8 EX DC or Tamron 28-75 f2.8 XR Di but would like some advice from anyone that has used these lenses or similar. Most photography will be outdoors.
Max budget £350.
Many thanks,
Phil.

Its best to check out the camera and lens review sites, so you can judge for yourself.

Below you will find a link to a well known review page. Also click on "reviews" up the top of the linked page so you can see all lenses.
Good luck

I think the 2 lenses you have chosen are too short for a standard working lense. Most photo journalists use a working lens in the range of 35-200mm. There are quite a few lenses in this range. My personal favourite is a Tamron, but whatever works. We have a 75-300mm that seems to be permanent fixture on our 300D, and a 35-200mm on our Elan. We do a lot of outdoor shooting and find anything shorter than 100mm just, well, too short.

I'd get the 18-50mm. With the 1.6 crop factor you're looking at an effective range of 29-80mm. That's perfect for a walk around lens. It is for me, anyway - I use a Nikon 17-55 f/2.8 with a 1.5 crop factor.
With a 28-75mm lens, I'd also want a 12-24ish zoom.

the cost of the XTi with the 18-55mm lens is approximately $665. The seventy 5-100mm lens is approximately $235. That totals $900... so the sale they are having is a exceptionally good deal. choose for it! :o)
