Orthodox Jews believe that man dates from Adam and Eve. They were created almost 6000 years ago around 5775-5776? (forgot the exact Hebrew Year we are currently in). I believe that many Orthodox Jews accept that the planet itself is a lot older and life started before 6000 years.
A lot of non believers who are scientists accept that the Universe had to start from a single point of creation. Also there is a Scientific theory gathering momentum that it appears that the laws of nature seem to have been designed with us in mind. I think its called the Anthromophic Theory and many non religious scientists are saying it seems to be valid.

I think it's possible given how grossly wrong science has been in the past. Though I do awknoledge that current scientific evidence supports an much older Earth.
However, depending on the interpretation, genesis allows for an old Earth as well.
Two possibilities:
1.) The genesis story is not meant to be taken literally, and is a metaphor for the creation and fall of man.
2.) The Gap Theory: The genesis story is to be taken literally, but must be interpreted in such a way for there to be a large gap between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2.
Both theories are perfectly acceptable and have no real impact on Christian theology which maintains that Christ died for the forgiveness of your sins if you would only accept His free gift.
Of course next week scientist could discover a fatal flaw in carbon dating so who know what we'll be talking about next?

I believe you believe in fairly tails if you believe in the "big bang."
The Bible says that God created the heaven and the earth in the beginning. Genesis 1: 1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. When was the beginning? Sorry you don't know. The earth has been here forever. Oh yes, time, as we know it didn't start until the fourth day when God created the sun so how old is the earth? You can ask him when you stand at the judgment seat. Genesis 1: 14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

No! i'm a born back Christian and have faith that the earth is a few the place around 5 billion years previous. No the place does Scripture state the age of the earth yet we do understand that "in the initiating..." Scripture does not state whilst that initiating replaced into. As we study extra into the creation account, Scripture states "The earth replaced into with out style and void..." be conscious right here that the be conscious "replaced into" definitely reads "grew to grow to be" in the unique writings hence it skill that the earth replaced into at one time as all of us know it on the instant as a effect, some thing passed off to the earth to render it a "shapeless mass and a ineffective planet" (with out style and void). it appears that evidently that the creation account as we've it on the instant is the place the Lord definitely renewed the earth and created guy.

The earth is of an undertermined age. The fossil record shows that the earth has existed for more than 6000 years, by far. It is human civilization that has existed for 6000 years, give or take.

I do. There is no empirical evidence that says it is older-only speculation. Any honest scientist will tell you that the ages they use to explain origins are assumed based on speculation.
If the earth is older than about 6,000 years-then why is the oldest known artifact that that has a verifiable date only 5500 years old. Don't say dinosaur bones now-their ages are assumed, not known. hmmm

The earth has been around for a hell of a lot longer than 6000 years - and I know evangelical Christians who would tell you the same. They're not all completely mad!
I think humans have been around for a lot longer than is currently accepted. Don't ask me why, I just do!

Well, between 6000 and 8000, but I won't quibble.
Check out the articles here. Most are from PHD science type people in their field.

It isn't.
Not even the bible says that.
We are in the second earth.
God destroyed the first earth after Lucifer revelled.
Read your bible.
It's in the very first chapter of Genesis.
God created the Heavens and the earth.
(First earth)
And the earth was a formless void.
(God destroyed the earth)
The God said "Let there be light".
(The beginning of the second earth)
Note: There is not time period given for anything before God said "Let there be light".
Also, a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as a day.
