I rank Panasonic, Fujitsu, Hitachi and Pioneer as my Top 4 brands, but do your homework. Find out what you want and compare. As for viewing from the sides, you don't have that problem with Plasma's, you only get that problem with Rear Projection TV.

Consumer Reports is for shmucks, the Panasonic plasmas have a crappy picture.

If money is no object, then Pioneer Elite or Fujitsu is correct.

If you want something reasonably priced, standard Pioneer.

I share the same question and to date with the homework we have been doing on HGTV's we are leaning toward buying a Panasonic th60pd42. It has a very good picture from all angles and the price is coming down from what it used to be. Hope this helps you.
