Why does black always have to be associated with the devil? It can be classy and sexy.

I think that the best part of having a wedding is having it YOUR way! It's your special day. If you feel that black suits your style or is more modern, classy, and/or elegant than white, then go for it! As long as you feel beautiful, sexy and elegant on your wedding day, then black is perfectly acceptable. As for tradition, traditions are there for those who want to follow them. You can break tradition if it suits your personality and style. Your wedding should be unique, like you. So, if you want to wear black (and it won't give your parents/grandparents/fiance/in-laws reason to throw a fit) then go for it! If you think it may cause strife with anyone else who is important to the wedding process (see list above) talk to them about it and tell them your reasons for wanting to wear black. If they can't understand it, then too bad! It's your wedding, your special day. As long as your fiance is okay with it and it's really what you want (like you won't look back at your photos in ten years and regret not having the white princess/fairy tale dress) then I say why not!

Congrats and enjoy your fabulous wedding with fabulous dress!

Ok, very strange...it won't let me type in l a w s as a word. It keeps giving me a ... so, I didn't mean in-... just an FYI!

In this day and age... tradition is really just some guidelines and helpful hints, not rules. Your wedding day show be a reflection of YOU… if black is your thing, then go with it!

And the comment above about it meaning you’re marring the devil is crap. The dress color of white means purity and that does not make you a saint. Black is sexy, sliming and one of my favorite wardrobe colors. I would wear what makes you happy, if that’s what you want… that’s what you should get.

Would you wanna look back at your photos and think “G’s I wish that I would have wore what I wanted and not what was expected”? I don’t think so; don’t go in to a marriage with regrets (lol being funny, but kinda true)

I think that it adds a unique touch to YOUR day. If you want to wear black then you should do it. Don't worry about traditions. You are the one that will have to look back on that day and remember what you wore. Also, It is about the act of two people getting married, not about what everyone is wearing.

Well, white usually symbolizes purity and happiness, but it used to be that women just got married in the best dress they owned, because most people couldn't afford a dress they'd only wear once. (And if they were lucky, they'd get a new "best dress" for their wedding.) My great-grandmother just wore her best dress when she got married.

It's not traditional these days for a woman to wear black, but if you want to have an informal ceremony, it's perfectly fine.

My personal take is that you can wear whatever pleases you and your fiancé. Black wedding dress is certainly against the tradition, so you have to figure out what is more important to YOU - sticking to the tradition, or going with something you really like. I personally opt for the latter more often than not. Our wedding was pirate-themed, and totally untraditional, with a pirate minister and blackpowder cannon salute. A friend of mine - who was the matron of honor at my wedding, and who organized the whole pirate gig and wrote our vows - got married several years ago wearing a charcoal gray dress with a bit of spark in it, very elegant; she also had a "best man" instead of a maid of honor. I'd say, go with what you like, and it'll be all the more memorable for it.

I say go for it if that is how you picture yourself on your wedding day!

Black is no longer just for funerals, i wear black dresses to weddings all the time and there are plenty of bridesmaids as well that wear black. If you want to wear black go for it. If people don't like it.......its not their day and at least you have given people something to remember your wedding with!!

Look, it's your day, so you and your groom can wear whatever you want. However, a black dress is not ordinary, so be prepared for some folks to talk about you. So what, right? BTW, I've seen white, ivory, pink and hot pink wedding dresses, so to each his/her own.

According to Katie Schaefer, "A black wedding dress can be a very formal and modern wedding dress choice."

" ... the color black is considered especially daring. Having been equated in ancient Egypt with death and the afterlife, the stigmas attached to black remain strong. However, what most people don't know is that black is perhaps the most empowering color there is.

In accordance with today's modern mystics, black is no longer a symbol of death, but rather symbolic of survival, independence, confidence, focus, fearlessness and strength. Moreover, black is said to protect one from pain and misfortune, as it is able to actually deflect vibrations of negative energy. And whether one believes in mysticism or not, just think of the last time you donned a slinky black evening dress; think of how you felt as you walked through a crowded room; remember the weight of so many eyes upon you, retinas filled to the brim with the deepest of admiration, respect and desire combined, eyes that belonged to woman as well as men, your appeal apparent to all, indiscriminate of gender or orientation.

This is power of black. Black is independent, fearless of society's reprimands, grounded in a species of strength that may only come forth from within. And when is such strength more necessary for any woman than on the day of her wedding? ... "

If it's your wedding, then it's your big day, and you do whatever makes you happy. Yeah, white is traditional, but I always enjoy weddings more when they have non-traditional touches. If you like black, then giv'er.
