why can i not open a workbook i tried everything i went to tools options and general tab like someone told be earlier, tried double click bottome of window, nothing works i know a lot about computers but this has got me stumped i cant find any answers anywhere., The program is not a trail. i am trying to open a new book. i went to file new already cant find open a work book. went to insert already cant find insert spreedsheet.

A new workbook should show up when you open Excel. If not, there is a icon in the top left corner that looks like a sheet of paper; click on that. If you still can't open a workbook, then do the Microsoft Updates for Office. If that doesn't work, then perform a repair on Microsoft Office with your disk.

This may sound over simplified, but have you shut the PC off and restarted it. Sometimes Microsoft application have issues that reside in memory and require this action... just a thought.

Maybe the file was saved without the extension (.xls) or with the wrong extension. If you know the file name or part of it, find it through search and rename with the extension.
