I had a long distance boyfriend who lied to me and had his family lie to me about him being in a car accident just to "protect" me from the truth. He had actually been arrested for being in the wrong place at the wrong time and continues to proclaim his innocence. He says I am being unreasonable and cruel because I want to end the relationship and all he was trying to do was protect me. He has even had his family contact me to try and convice me that he really did have my best interest at heart. They have also called me uncaring and selfish. Who's right?

if he can't trust you to stand behind him, and stay with him through hard times... then i think you will have a pretty rocky future together.

You are. Don't get mixed up with a guy whos family is willing to lie on his behalf on such a huge issue. Protecting you? A car accident is a huge deal and to lie about it is beyond reason. You don't even know if he was really arrested or out of town with some ex girl or something. If he and his family are willing to lie about this, then what next? There's no telling. Long distance relationships are like long distance telephone companies. They take a huge toll on you and stick you with the bill.
