With my own chilren I put togeter a keepsake box. I put in it the newspaper from the day they were born, a CD that was number 1, number 1 best selling book plus loads more bits. My children love to look at them.

My sis had a little boy in February and I made her up a hand basket of goodies she might not have had in.
I bought a gingham lined basked and bought for it some patterened flannels, teething gel, calpol, vapour rub, some pyjamas for baby, shampoo, a mickey mouse toy, and lots and lots of other things that i found indespensible with my daughter! she was so pleased with it all she cried and she now uses the basket to keep nappies in by the cot! I think i spent about £50 in total but as i bought it bit by bit over six months it seemed like i'd spent a whole lot but it was all absorbed in my weekly shop!!!

When my children were christened at 1 1/2 and 5 my sister bought them a star.... yes a real star in the solar system is named after them... I have grid references and a certificate to show them that whenever they look into the dark night, somewhere up there is a twinkling star named after them... they love it! Im sure there must be a web site.... try something like 'star registry' Good luck.

Make them something, it comes from the heart, it is easy to go out and buy something , but taking the time and putting your heart into it, those are the things that people keep and think of as special.(there are some really easy fleece blankets you can make it , no sewing or anything like that, you just cut strips and tie , and they turn out really cute, I bet if you went to a craft or fabric store they would have some great ideas for you)

I think you should buy something for the baby's future. Something rare, precious and useful. Something that will increase in value over time. I suggest a barrel of oil!

Why not make something yourself, that way you can be sure that it is not duplicated, and I bet that they see it as more of a treasure than any other present they receive. Good luck to you and your sister. WB
