Actually they have just been referring to it as Coke and Diet Coke for quite some time now. Besides that, Diet Coca~Cola is a long name for a product and maybe they thought by shortening up the name to Diet Coke, more people would buy the product instead of having to say the longer tongue-twisting version of the name.

They only use Coke because it is a simpler and fast way of saying the actual name of the product. "Diet coca cola" takes too log to say. Also when most people order regular "coca cola" they dont call it coca cola do they? Nope....They call it coke. So i think its just easier to get out!! And have you noticed the new cans of coca cola no longer really say the whole name on the can? they say coke.

cheers!

All else fails, call the 800 number for coke, and ask a representative = )

Because the name "diet coca-cola" is too long to put on a can.
And, advertisers want to get to the point...besides, no one I know actually calls the drink "coca cola" they just say "coke".

Maybe because the company thought that "Diet Coca-Cola" was too long a name for a soft drink.

Because "Diet Coke" is the low-fat phrase for "Diet Coca-cola"!

Although I'm no expert on soda, I would assume it's because it is cheaper to print "Diet Coke" than it would be to print "Diet Coca Cola" on the bottles, cans, etc.

The company just wants your cash. Any trick is justified.
I was hooked on the diet stuff working as a Software Engineer.
I drank 4 cans a day instead of cups of coffee.
After about three months I had a very bad tummy one night.
The ache was so bad I thought I was going to die.
Thought it was a heart attack. I was rushed to the local A&E.
The doctors told me I had a stomach ulcer and should lay off coke.
It has phosphoric acid that destroys the tummy lining.

Possibly because both 'diet' and 'coke' have 4 letters so it looks pleasing on the eye. and it rolls off the tongue.

If I was doing a joke answer, I would say that I don't know but, as people say about me, you need to get out more!
