I ask this in the religion section because religions say that parents must always be respected and obeyed. I know it is of very much importance in Christiany and Islam, but what happens when parents are really doing wrong with their child? If they abuse their children or if they make pressure on their grown up children, e.g. regarding what kind of person they should marry or what profession they should take if they make their child unhappy this way?
This is a serious question, what can parents do and should still be respected? What can they ask and can should still be obeyed? I think there must be a limit for this somewhere.

No they are not, and respect is earned, no matter who you are.
Another useless commandment.

Title alone does not earn one respect. It is actions that count. If someone like a parent or a police officer or a president is doing wrong, then they should not get any respect, even if they are a parent or a police officer or president.

of course their is, when the parent is in the wrong the child no longer have to listen. but thats different from when the child just says their wrong when their really looking after the child safety. But it all falls upon the parents head what they do with their child.

God instructs that we honer our mother and father.
Since God is love, and God wants us to be righteous, then to honer would be to love.
Remember that the sins of the parent can go on for generations.
Crack babies, alcoholism,abuse, etc..
The act of evil is different from the person being evil, therefore God instructs that we forgive.
Through forgiveness, we show love and mercy.
You obey God, and through that, you honer your parents.

There is a limit in my opinion. They should always be respected-however,if they require you to do something that goes against your personal beliefs (ex."Have sex with me) then they are not to be obeyed.(for that particular task)

They must obey their Christian parents. If their parents aren't Christians then they look to God their father for guidance.
