pastor Chad, absolute truth is beyond thought and speech. OM (GOD) is the highest expression i can make. One can experience the allness of God in the heart, but you will be unable to discribe "IT".

cvg384, to enter in to higher states of consciousness, all human concepts that have served you so well must be left at the gate to the stright and narrow way into the HEART. core beliefs are but rungs on the ladder of spiritual awareness,to climb you must let go the present rung.

mortgageg, how does one take logic into the HEART ?the mind only takes one to the heart, then drowns in the unconditional LOVE of GOD within the heart.

There's a Zen story I like...

A university professor went to visit a famous Zen master. While the master quietly served tea, the professor talked about Zen. The master poured the visitor's cup to the brim, and then kept pouring. The professor watched the overflowing cup until he could no longer restrain himself. "It's overfull! No more will go in!" the professor blurted. "You are like this cup," the master replied, "How can I show you Zen unless you first empty your cup."

On the other hand, though, just because someone pours something in your cup it doesn't mean it's always wise to swallow it.

Absolute truth exists, and it can be questioned because it will hold up under scrutiny. It's not closed-minded to think that absolute truth exists, because relative truth is an oxymoron. There are some things which are absolutely true, but people think it's closed-minded to believe that we should believe one thing is right and everyone else is wrong. Does that mean we shouldn't question? Not at all. But you don't have to keep on searching once you find absolute truth, because why would you have to? The problem with this world as a whole is that we've rejected the notion of absolute truth because to acknowledge absolute truth is to make us accountable to God. It's not that absolute truth does not exist; it's that we don't want to make ourselves accountable to it.

For that matter, all religions can't be compatible with each other, if that's what your question is getting at. The God of the Bible is totally different than the God of the Q'uran, for example. And the God of the Q'uran is totally different than the God (or gods, as it were) of Hinduism. Mutually exclusive concepts of God cannot all be true because they are all different. The God of the Bible sent His Son to die for our sins; the God of the Q'uran did no such thing. These concepts cannot be blended because God either did something and He has a Son, or He didn't and He doesn't. There can be no other possibility.

My mind is so open it takes me a while to sleep at night cuz all those neurons just won't shut up. ( Not that I don't appreciate them, I just appreciate and need sleep ) The truth is eternal growth but ever present faith in God. God created this earth so vast and the heavens so eternal how could we ever close our minds to that? The glory we will learn when we inevitably die.I believe there are not just many different points of relativity as you put it but an INFINITE amount.
My mind is like a fertile ground, throw as many seeds as you like on it.
What a good thought provoking question tho.

A closed mind is a closed water bottle. It starts stinking over a period of time.whereas a open bottle will have contact with the environment outside and it gets influenced, it may change colour and taste if somebody tries to. A closed mind is not receptive to any other opinion than the one already formed and imprinted,

Don't question truth that you have already established or your beliefs will be a deck of cards that can be blown down with the slightest breeze.

No, I haven't a closed mind. I am an unbeliever and I keep questioning what I believe is transiently true in my view. This is how I feel I evolve.

anyone religious is a closed mind. anyone who says "this is the only way it happened" is a closed mind. evolutionists included. an open mind would mean that (like you said) your continuing to look for answers, and ask questions, research different things, and not just stick to one idea

True. Yet if one never decides what reality is, then one can never progress past a basic awareness of it. One does need to decide in order to progress.

I don't look at it from that perspective. I just see my study of philosophy and religion as a never ending exploration of new and interesting knowledge.
