Satan originally was a Persian concept, though they didn't give a name to him. Before that, the Jews came up with the first really popular monolithic god. They had a concept of evil, but not a personification that was opposite to the monolithic god. The Christians "borrowed" the concept from the Persians and ran with it, creating a Satan to serve as God's opposite.

Satan is the name of a spirit person who once was an angel. Upon his deflection, he became a demon. The name Satan means resister. He is now so-called because he resisted (to a great degree) the will of God. He does not have a pitchfork or horns. In fact, he was one of the most beautiful angels in heaven.
According to Revelation, he is now relegated to the vicinity of earth which is one reason he is wildly angry. He knows his time is short - he's on death row, so to speak. He's also quite upset because he no longer has the run of the universe. Imagine someone who used to be able to go from one coast to the other, but is now confined to one neighborhood in one state. That's Satan, who used to roam the universe but is now confined to earth.
This does not mean, however, that he is powerless. On the contrary, the same book of Revelation reports quite clearly that he is misleading the entire inhabited earth. And since Luke reports that he offered all the kingdoms of earth to Jesus of Nazareth, he also possesses quite a bit of authority.

The father of all lies sought to get even by corrupting his creations even to this day prowling the world seeking the ruin of souls. A third of the angels followed satan and they are the evil spirits doing satans work. How you might asked ? you could write a book about that.

Lucifer, the former prince of the angels, the morningstar of heaven before he rebelled and was cast out of heaven with 1/3 of all the host. He was the most powerful angel, probably even more than Gabriel and Michael, the other 2 named angels. Lucifer (Satan) is now reffered to as a demon, and he and his demon organization seek to tempt humans to sin. His goal is to overthrow God, to take His place, but this will never happen, since God is all-powerful, and Satan will eventually be bound up and thrown in the lake of fire for all eternity.

A mythological being that xians came across after influence by zoroastrianism on babylon. To give god an antagonist that didn't really exist before. The hebrew "satan" was more of a "challenger" than an evil opposite.

To keep it straight and simple...
The head of all the good things, is God.
For every good spirit, there is an opposing evil spirit.
Put all the evil things together, and at the head of it all is Satan.
So - God is an almighty power, a combination of all the good powers, like love.
Satan is also a mighty power, always in conflict with , and opposing , all which is good , thus Satan is a combination of all the evil powers, like hate.

Satan aka Lucifer was a beautiful angel made by God.
He's beauty got the best of him and he was the one that tempted Eve in the garden. He then was cast out of heaven. Then he and 1/3 of all of God angels (how many we do not know but bible says Jesus could call legions of angels if he wanted) fought God and the angels that chose God.
Jesus said he saw him fall from heaven.
He tried to imitate God all the time. That is the reason for so many religions. He desires worship, he wants to do evil to mankind because he wants to hurt God. God loves us. He is also the father of all lies. Jesus said he was a murderer from the beginning.

Satan was the highest raking angel in heaven he was the bright and morning star but pride grew within his heart and that was the beginning of sin was with that pride in him because of it he started to thank he is better than god so he said he would rise above god in return 1/3 of the angels were decieved because angels are like us they have free will and they followed satan (also known as Lucifer or the devil) and because of this michael the angel of war was told by God to throw satan and his angels to the earth and so he did so if you ever hear the devil is in hell thats a lie he roams the earth like a roaring lion seeking who he may devour

A fictional character created by Christianity to convert pagans. Later merged with the story of Lucifer.
Satan was most likely patterned after the Pagan God of the Hunt who wore a deer/buck mantle (hense the horns). Some say he was patterned after the Pagan God Pan who was half goat half man. Most likely a combination of the two.
