I have only tried to color my hair once, and I did a strand test once and nothing it would not change colors. I want it to be a dark brown color.

Have you tried henna? Henna does a great job putting a naturally darker tone on your hair, and it is easily removed if you don't like it. Do a test strip first though.

A lot of people don't know how to remove it, so I'll tell you now just in case.
1) use a cotton ball with generous amount of rubbing alcohol and swab hair
2) put mineral oil on the hair after step 1 and wrap the head in a plastic wrap for 30 minutes. Use a warm hair dryer on the hair for about the last 10 minutes.

Wash twice and the henna will be removed. Since henna just coats the hair, it can be removed without damaging it.

Here's a site for henna, but there are many others.

I personally like Colera Henna.

i think your still using a red base color, in which case it would just be a darker reddish brown.......you need to use an ash brown or a neutral brown........but if i were you i would go to a pro, because dying your hair too much will make it look muddy and greenish.....get your hair trimmed regularly.....
