I have a 3 month old rat terrier puppy and he seems to still pee in his bed even after i take him out or after i wash it. I've done everything i know to do. Scold him for bad behavior and praise him for the good, but none of this seems to help him from peeing on things. I have the spray you can use to keep him off of things and urinating but this isnt helping. thanks!

There is a febreeze made specifically for this. Also, if you add OxyClean and an extra rinse cycle when you do the laundry, it will get the smell out.

I have a rat terrier also but never had her having accidents in her kennel. Usually dogs won't urinate where they sleep. Unusual yours does. If your puppy is in a kennel (crate) then you should put nothing in there but newspaper. They get mixed signals when you put cloth or a doggy bed in with them because they think it's grass - the feel of it on their paws is about the same as being on grass.

You can use rubbing alcohol to get the urine smell out. Straight - don't dilute it. No kidding it even gets out the smell of cat urine. Hope this works for you. The stuff "Nature's Miracle" or something like that where you pay bookoo bucks for in a pet store is worthless! It's mostly made of rubbing alcohol anyway. Go to your nearest dollar store and buy the rubbing alcohol. It won't discolor your rugs, clothes, furniture. It's great.

Dogs learn by association. Learn a non-violent association tactic to show him that he's on the wrong path. Small dogs tend to take scolding wrong, they become intimidated and actually, if you don't catch them in the act of peeing, they don't have a clue what the scolding is all about. Patience is a virtue..don't give up. Put his nose(dogs most receptive sense)close to his lost water, and take him directly outside after associating the words no/bad with the not so pleasant smell of his own waste. Upon arrival outside, set him on the ground, and allow him to sniff, and when he goes outdoors, praise him like he brought home dinner when you were starving...Just a thought. I wish you luck.

Try using white vinegar. It will take the smell out of his bed. If he smells the urine there he will continue to wet there.

scolding him for urinating is only making him do it more . . .

How can you 'scold' a dog for going to the bathroom? He needs to understand he has to go outside and do that.
