Kitten ,..Hands down

A puppy and a 1 year old cat can get along...dont get me wrong.. but if you really want a companion for your cat then a cat is the way to go

ALso you already have the stuff for a cat, and CATS you can leave and they are pretty self sufficient... if you get a puppy that changes things

Dogs need walks... leaving poor kitty behind and so on.. if you go on a trip and cant take dog.. you will have to kennel him or her if there is nobody to watch him and then poor kitty is alone

I love dogs... but I think another cat is a better way to go..

Choose the breed and sex acording to what you already have..

Good Luck

Hi £1

I'm sure he thinks that you are his best playmate, but if you introduce any other animal then I'm sure a kitten would be best. He is still a young cat so he probably is still playful, he is also bigger and stronger so the pecking order will soon be sorted out, but don't be surprised if he's a bit rough with it. They do however speak the same language, cats instinctively understand each others body and facial signals they also understand the need for grooming and would probably groom each other, so another cat would settle in quicker and better than a dog. You should also get a she, or queen kitten as he would most likely be protective towards her. It would be advisable to get her spayed before she started her first season tho. If you bought another tomcat then as the kitten grew it may challenge for dominance and you would have to deal with fighting cats.

There are also other factors to consider, double food bills double vet bills, and double damage to your home. So if you have the finances and don't mind the damage then get another cat.

I agree with big black bat, a lab puppy is a great playmate for a cat and the cat won't be so territorial with a puppy as a kitten. You need some room for a lab, but if they get frequent walks they can be happy anywhere.

A kitten, the puppy would want to chase it around and play rough with it . Just make sure to get both of your cat's fix and they'll get use to each other in some time and be best friends.

I am not sure its a great idea getting a puppy ,a one year old cat may be pretty set in its ways, and not to keen on a newcomer, but if you must then i think a kitten might be more acceptable.

I assume your cat likes other cats? If not, don't get a kitten get a puppy.

Reason, your cat will start behaving badly, pooping and peeing all over telling you to get rid of that kitten.

But, if your cat is OK with other cats then I would get a kitten a male kitten. They are more adaptable.

A kitten would be best. It is always best to get the same species. He will not enjoy being mauled and bitten and tormented by a puppy and that may make him leave home.
