You don't have to give up bread completely, but limit your consumption to one or two slices a day of whole grain bread.
If you crave bread too much while on a diet, perhaps you are not getting enough complex carbohydrates. Eat beans, lentils, and some brown rice, and perhaps some oatmeal for breakfast.
These are all healthy foods to include in your diet and may help to take away your craving for bread. I pretty much gave up bread some years ago and my best advice for avoiding bread is
never shop for groceries when you are hungry. Those bakery smells will get you every time.

Don't try to stop cold turkey--it's too difficult. Cut back a little at a time. I've gotten into the habit of throwing away at least half the bread from any purchased sandwich. Try eating healthier bread--whole wheat and sprouted grains.

Eat protein. But if you must have bread make it whole grain, not whole wheat, that is just white bread with a minimum of fiber.

I don't think bread is bad for you if you make it yourself.
