How old is your car? Can you afford to get a new one if it's totaled and you don't have any collision coverage. Imagine ( I know it's a stretch, but stay with me) if you were at fault for an accident or a tree fell on your car. In a scenario such as that, you'd have no way to get paid for your loss. If you're willing to walk away from that and scrap your car and buy a new one, by all means, drop the collision and comp.

Just have liability coverage only, unless your a terrible driver. You will save a substantial amount of money if you switch. If $6000 is the value of the car you would probably get half that if you traded in for a newer car. If your car is worth less than around $8000 it is just not worth it to have full coverage.

The determining factor in changing from "full coverage" to liability only is: Would you be able to replace the vehicle out of pocket if it were totalled in an accident and you were at fault or would that mean that you would have to go without?
Liability coverage pays for damages to someone ELSE's property or for injuries you cause to someone else. If you hit a deer or a telephone pole, your insurance company would no longer be responsible for repairs on your vehicle.

No, because you never know what will happen. I did that a few years ago, and two months after I switched to liability someone stole my car and totaled it, and I was left with nothing. It's always better to be safe than sorry, but I'm sure you could get a cheaper rate than that if you shop around.

Have a loan on it? Most loan outfits require full coverage. Instead of going to just liability, try raising your deductibles. That can also reduce your cost.
