I have a 7 month old Shitzu/Cava and we have just moved into a new home about one month ago. He is a house dog and only goes outside for walks and to go potty. Last week I took him to get groomed and the groomer said he has fleas on his belly. She also said when she gave him a bath she didn't see any jump and didn't notice until she started to groom him and then seen he had 2 or 3 on his belly. She said I didn't have to worry about the house being infested because it didn't seem like it could be a problem. So I got a 3&1 shampoo to kill and it worked. Then I seen 2 fleas on him again so I gave him another bath and decided from now on to let him go through the front door and guess what? We have them again! I've been paying very much close attention to him and if I see any fleas jumping on our house, bed, etc. But I don't see any jumping or having them bite us and only see fleas on him. My upstair neighbor's cat has fleas, she says. Can it travel? Our front door is also attached to hers.

Friendly Hello, Fleas are not easy to get rid of. But some really good steps to take is. Get a different groomer. AS if she said not to worry about the house being infested. Well wrong advise there. You are going to need to treat your home with a flea bomb. Be sure to have your pets not in the house. Birds fish etc. Follow directions completely. You will need to do this more than once. At the time your house is being bombed. Take the dog to a knowledgeable groomer and have her flea dipped. Then buy frontline and also go to vet and get some wormer for tape worms. As if your dog has fleas there is a real good chance that it also has tape worms. AS dogs get tape worms from fleas. Also ask the vet about the flea pill. Good pill to have. Once you have done all this. Then plan on doing it again. As the fleas will hatch as most dips, shampoos and bombs do not kill all the eggs as these fleas are sneakly little pest and hide these eggs in mysterious places. So these babies hatch and the problem start all over again. So follow directions to a T. I hope this will help. Blessings, Kelly

Every time that dog goes outside he's subjected to infestation. Then, when you bring him back into the house, the fleas jump on and off therefore infesting your home. Now, you not only have a dog with fleas, but a house as well!
Your going to have to flea bomb the house while the dog is at the groomers or vets being de-fleaed in order to get rid of them. However, as soon as the dog goes back outside, you'll have another repeat of the same situation.
You could talk to your vet to see if any of the flea control devices will help if not cure the problem. Some of the newer deterrents make claim to eliminating fleas altogether however, as we all know, corporate America makes false claims every day of the week regarding their products!

Yes they can travel. They can jump on your dog when he goes outside. The best thing to do is get a flea color or treat him with some kind of flea killer. It does not matter he can get them any where you go if there are fleas around. Hope this helped. Once there is a nice freeze they should die off. That's if you dont live where it's summer all the time.

If you have a dog, it will get fleas at some point no matter what you do. Frontline is the best for fleas. Apply it once a month to your dog and it will keep the fleas at bay. There are other options available from your vet, but from experience, Frontline has always worked the best for me.

yeah, fleas can for sure travel. try using a medication like frontline or advantix to get rid of the fleas b/c it lasts longer than shampoo and is far easier/less time consuming to give than to give a bath! you should also try washing your carpet, bedding, anywhere where your dog has been b/c fleas can live by themselves (they don't need your dog to stay alive), and you can kill them when you clean stuff out.
also try to get your neighbor to buy some flea medication for her cat too.

If your neighbor has an infestation, they could be clinging to her clothing and coming off in your entry way where you dog passes thru.

Best suggestion is to get frontline to treat your pup. It's a monthly investment, but alot easier than needing to bath constantly to fight them off.

Not much else you can do unless you can convince your neighbor to treat her problem, as it seems to be your source.
