I have been to Utah during the Halloween season and was blown away by all the scary lawn ornaments at so many houses there.Wondering if these were just non-christian homes, I asked my sister if this is something that Mormons get into and she says, "they do in very big way". So I don't understand why a christian religion would want to celebrate Halloween.

We celebrate Halloween for the same reason we celebrate ANY holiday--it gives us a chance to do fun things as a family. The traditions established as families stay with people their entire lives and helps them to grow up to be parents that will also spend time with THEIR children. What a wonderful world it would be if EVERYONE adopted the LDS practice of spending time as a family during the holidays. I don't know of a SINGLE LDS family that sees Halloween as a devilish day, that thought never enters my head--not once.

The previous poster IdahoMike the Mormon hater made some allegations. Let's see if Mike knows what he is talking about.

Here is what we believe. Let's check off which beliefs reflect the teachings of Satan:

1. Jesus Christ is the son of God (not Satanic)
2. We believe in helping others and being unselfish with our possessions (not Satanic)
3. We believe in being honest (not Satanic)
4. We believe in virtue prior to marriage and faithfulness to one spouse after marriage (nope, not Satanic)
5. We believe that Jesus Christ was a real person whose atonement made it possible for all mankind to live again (nope, not Satanic)
6. We believe in forgiving those that wrong us in some way (nope, not satanic)
7. We believe in doing good to all men (nope, not Satanic)
8. We believe in respecting our bodies as the temple of God (as the Bible teaches). (not Satanic either)

tell me when you want me to stop.....

9. We believe that Christ will return (physically) to the earth again and will rule and reign for a thousand years (sorry, not Satanic either)
10. We believe in spending time with our families and in creating an environment that will foster moral behavior, compassion, and love among all family members. (nope, not Satanic either)
11. We believe that ALL mankind are children of a kind and lovine Father in heaven (still, nothing Satanic)
12. We believe in being faithful to ONE spouse throughout the duration of our lives (nope, not Satanic either)
13. EVERY lesson we teach, EVERY truth we embrace, EVERY focus of EVERy meeting we hold centers on the life and mission of Jesus Christ (uh......not Satanic)
14. Our church is named after the God we place our faith in--Jesus Christ (uh.....not Satanit)
15. We are taught how faith, testimony, and self control can RESIST the temptations of Satan (uh......no Satanic either)

Mavbe a little real research would help IdahoMike sound less ridiculous when he opens his mouth and reveals his ignorance.

There are many Christians that like to celebrate Halloween, not just the Mormons. Perhaps many Mormons have Irish roots.

I am continually amazed why people, especially Christians, want
to celebrate a day of ugly, dead, and scary things. Just for an excuse to eat free candy.

The founder of the mormon cult was very much into the occult, as were his first followers. When. The cult was moved to Utah and the first 'temple" was built it was covered in occult symbols. The most obvious of these were covered over in the 1950s I believe when some publicity was made about them. I have seen pictures of these but can not find them on line right now, but they were clearly images used in occult practices. They have many "secret" practices that are only for the most"faithful"

The Lost and deceived of Satan(LDS) are not of The Christian Faith. In fact they taught that Christians were the enemy and that the Christian Bible was evil. Now They are trying a different method of recruting and are now claiming to be Christian but even more so... and they even pass out King James Bibles... Why do they not use the s0-called Bible that there founder said was given to him directly by god? instead of now giving out what they taught for over 150 yrs was an evil bible. They do not even teach from their own bible given to them by god... why?... because it is false and they know it...but if they admit it then that would make the other works by J Smith also false as he claimed them to also be from god, via some indian ghost.

mormonism is not Christian in any way shape or form. It is an evil inspired cult.... or worse... that has deceived many many otherewise very good people... condeming them to eternal seperation from God.

Whats not to celebrate. It is an oportunity to do things with our children. A chance to dress up in funny or scary costumes and get candy. What is wrong with this? We are not celebrating satan but rather a funny holliday involving costumes and candy.

No, carving pumpkins with our families, and sharing time with our kids and neighbors through trick-or-treating isn't against our religion.

But can we please separate Mormon Doctrine from Utah culture? There are more members outside of the U.S. than in, and they celebrate different days (all souls day, all saints day, dia de los muertos etc), it's just culture, not religion.

it's just a fun and enjoyable way to spend an evening. We don't celebrate is as "Satan's Day" or any such thing - we just dress up and hand out candy or popcorn to the trick_or_treaters.

Come on, lighten up a bit.

You're so obvious it's pathetic. Has the I.Q. level in America sunk so low that a complete moron like you can come out with such a piece of obvious bait questioning? C'mon. Get real.
