have you noticed most people on here are too dense to realize all you are really doing is ranting about breed specfic legeslation.

All animals are the same, they defend themselves the only way they know if they feel threatened (look at what happened to Steve Irwin, he was in the animals territory with a few other divers and a camera man, the sting ray felt threatened). It also has a lot to do with the way they are brought up around people and are trained.
If you are not "skilled" enough to have a pet that does need to be trained, no matter how much or how little, there is no point in you having a pet at all. You need to be able to control the animal since it is your responsibility.
If you feel that your pet will turn on you at any minute then you haven't trained it well enough...I have had at least 7 dogs in my life and not 1 has bitten me or anyone else.
I honestly don't see why all breeds of dogs are tarred with the same brush when 1 or 2 "lash out"...does that mean they can say the same for people?

not all dogs are like that. you have to consider the fact that she got too close to the dogs face. or she was in its personal space while it was eating or maybe it just wasnt a nice dog. there are alot of factors that may have caused the dog to feel violated or stressed and it lashed out by biting her face. and not only has the media picked up on it but alot of states have banned different dogs. you are being rude to even say that all labs are mean. we once had two lab puppies who were sweet and never bit. they are great dogs and loving and smart and great w/ kids. get a clue.
when i was about 7 my mom's friend had a grey hound i got really close to its face and started barking at it. it bit my cheek real hard. i had a scar but its gone now.

There's obviously more going on behind the scenes than what you've stated here. Labs are excellent dogs, but like any breed, can become aggressive, mean and dangerous if not raised in a proper environment. If they come from a puppy mill, there's a higher chance of poor behavior as well.
A properly raised Lab, or any other breed, will not behave in that way. Sounds like the owner must have beend doing something very wrong. No way should the breed be banned.

I have owned 3 labs in my life in have never so much have been biten or growled at by one. They are the sweetest of all the breeds in my book. Most of the time they will lick you to death.
If this happened to your friend, I am sorry. However, the fact remains most labs just don't behave in this fashion unless they are provoked and it takes a lot of provoking.
Please do not view your dog with fear.
Good Luck and Take Care

I know that dogs only become who they are by the people that own them. If a dog like pittbull is aggressive it is because it was shown that this is exceptable behavior. No Lab is going to turn on you unless u have shown it how to be aggresive and incorraged this behavior. You can make a small dog incredibly aggresive and unperdictable just like you can make a large dog a big baby in a large body. its all about how they are raised.

There are NO BAD DOGS
JUST HORRIBLE OWNERS
If you don't know how to train your dog, please surrender it to the humane society so they can find it a loving home.
Labs do NOT have a tendency to be mean. this dog may have been abused, neglected or mistreated in some way to make it react like that. Train your dog well, BEHAVE like a pet owner and not a victim and you'll be fine. but if you are so ignorant you think a dog will turn on its owner after 4 years, PLEASE by all means, do the dog a favor and find it a home with an INTELLIGENT human.

Add Boxers to the list quick too- my husband had his face bit once by a Boxer. I also have been bitten by a Pomeranian, and a little purse dog. So, add those to the list. I am almost sure my neighbors friends cousins' sister got bit by a Retriever too- yeah- a black one one of those Labs. Ugh!!!!! I am so scared now.

Actually, I had my nose bitten by a yellow lab in April of 2005. They wanted to put more stitches in than they did, but they were concerned about infection. I still have a scar, and the hospital keeps sending me a bill, even though it was supposed to be covered by worker's comp.!
All because the idiot dog didn't want a bath!

Actually my husband was bit by a black lab about 2 years ago, he still has a huge scar. the dog didn't bark or growl or anything. just walked right up to him and took a chunk out of his leg. now he is scared to death of dogs. however, I don't think that you should get rid of your dog, especially since you have had it for so long

ANY dog can lose it and bite it's owner in fear, anger or just lose their ever living minds and attack... I've heard of cats, birds and other animals attacking their owners....should we ban all of them too? The media has reported it, how else would I have heard about it? Those fun loving Dalmatians? You know, 101 Dalmatians, well they attack too.
