Your friend's local yellow pages would be the best place to search. He/she could call up different vets and get their prices that way.

On another note, is your friend absolutely certain he/she wants to get the cat declawed? Does your friend know exactly what that entails? (It's amputation to the first knuckle. It would be like someone cutting off your fingertips.) There are other ways to deal with a cat scratching than declawing them. They can have their claws clipped every other week (and people can do it themselves), there are those plastic guards that go over the claws, there's Feliway, which will keep a cat from clawing furniture and there's the strategic placement of scratching posts next to furniture.

When it's all said and done, it's still your friend's cat, so he/she is free to have the cat declawed or not. But I still had to point out that declawing is not good for the cat.

Declawing cats is cruel. It hurts them more than you really think. Here is a website that is much better for the cats; www.softpaws.com . These things are little caps that come in a variety of colors and sizes. They are also cheap. It also comes with glue. All you have to do is put a little glue in the caps that come and stick it on the cat's nails. They are very reasonable and worth it! Please don't let your friend declaw her cat!

I suggest....your friend find a good, SAFE home for her cat away from people who want to cut off its body parts!

Or, learn how to train animals. Offer it a scratching post and use a spray bottle to train it not scratch anywhere else.

Picture this, in the wild, a cat of any kind uses its claws to initially grab onto its prey, so isn't it safe to assume that this means the claws and their attachment points would have very sensitive nerves connected? It only makes sense, right? They have to know when prey is getting away. When a cat gets declawed, the vet has to cut the entire last joint of each "finger" off. Look at the palm of your hand...see that last joint of each finger? Imagine someone taking some gardening shears and snapping that off each of your fingers. Yeah, sure the cat will be out when this is done but don't you think it'll hurt when they wake up and I'd be willing to bet they feel it somewhat forever! Ask people with missing limbs...are they happy about that? Does it feel good to them? Tell your friend to train their cat or get rid of it, don't mutilate it just because it may be more convenient or they aren't willing to take the time to train it. Hey, how about they buy a snake for a pet, they don't have claws to scratch with or even any of that pesky hair that has to be cleaned up. Or, is your friend going to shave their cat so that isn't a problem? I'd like to know what they do to keep it from going to the bathroom cause you know dealing with the litter box is a royal pain!

If I knew I wouldn't tell you as I am opposed to declawing a cat. That procedure is outlawed in all the countries of Western Europe. Europeans have furniture and children the same as we do and they don't declaw their cats.

You friend is just being lazy in not training her cat properly and even considering multilating an animal for her convenience.

Don't Declaw the Cat! Declawing is cruel. The process of declawing is the equivalent of cutting of the first joint (Just below the nail) of every single one of your fingers

no no do you know that they do not just take the nail out they cut at the first paw nunnkle and remove it think of it this way lets cut your finger at the first nunnkle that is how it feels for a cat it is mean and painful to this to a cat please have for friend reconsider doing this ther are many different things you can do to stop unwanted scratching if you remove the nails they cant protect their self
1 get a wood or box scratcher these do not fell likr your rug or furniture so there's no confusion on the cats part
2transparent tape where the cat is scratching they dont like stick things and it is transparent tape so family and friends dont see it but your cat knows it is there
and remove it after a little while
3go to pet store buy nail tips they last for 3 months or go to groomers and get then or cut them for about 15.00 for tips 5.00 to cut

declawing is horrible. it can cause the cat to have other problems like not wanting to use the little box because of pain. read this so an informed decision can be made: http://www.declawing.com/. keep in mind, there are other options: http://www.softpaws.com/.

yeah, don't do it. Declawing is basically removing the 1st finger joint. It is cruel and unnecessary. Train the cat not to claw furniture, get a scratching post, and teach it young to submit to monthly clipping.
