it displays a message saying "if this is an internet source, connect to the internet" but i AM connected to the internet! re-installing didn't work, and i have downloaded everything i can find codec wise!

Delete and download it again. If that doesn't work get realplayer of DivXplay or if your heart is set on mediaplayer try backing everything up on CD-R and rebuilding the hard drive.

OK, let's be specific for a moment. Is MP10 crashing or just not playing the videos you want it to. If it's crashing (as in not responding), then click on "Report this Error" when Windows asks you if you want to do Error Reporting. After is goes through the process of sending the report, click on the more information link to see some solutions. If you are trying to watch a video from the Internet, BE SURE THAT YOU TYPED THE ADDRESS IN RIGHT. WMP is very particular about that. If all else fails, try downloading a video or MP3 you *know* is there, like something from http://www.capsteps.com.

I suggest you call Microsoft and advise them of your problem. I had tried downloading media player 11 and that didn't work for me so when I went back to media player 10 I was having problems with that and I had to reload XP. Hope everything works out better for you than it did me.
