ok, i was thinking of visiting Canada for the weekend, can anyone from there tell me what i would expect?
what i mean is, how are the people there, what sites should i go see, what does the american dollar equal over there?
Are there any strange laws and customs i should know about?

Hi there,
The most important thing to realize about Canada is that it's a very big country! What you'd be interested in seeing depends where you're planning on going: I live in BC, the westernmost province, which has a lot of outdoor sports, ecotourism etc on the coast. There's lots of great dining and shopping in Vancouver on Robson Street. If you're going to Ontario, you might be interested in seeing our parliament buildings in Ottawa (or not) or the CN tower. Just research the province you're closest to, as I'm most familiar with BC.
As far as the people, Canada's very multicultural (esp. BC) and this carries over into the great atmosphere of the cities. People are generally polite and helpful.
Although we don't like to admit it, Canada is not that different from the US. Offhand the only laws/customs that might be different I can think of concern guns...you can't pack any heat in public :) Also the drinking age is lower (19 in most areas) and smoking in public places is illegal in most provinces. If you are a super-patriotic American you may want to tone it down a bit :)
The exchange rate is hovering around $1 CAD=0.88 USD, so you arent getting a huge deal.

One of the strange laws here is that a someone can refuse payment of a good or service if there is more than 25 1 cent coins. (i.e. you can pay a 25 cent candy with 25 1 penny coins, but if you buy something 26 cents worth, you have to have a nickle dime or quarter in the amount.) It's an oddball rule that most people don't know about... I've never tried paying something with just pennies...

Well, there are so many things to see... hmm. where to start...
There is a giant moose, a giant hockey stick, a large badger thing... we have a lot of really big things.
We are a great bunch. We like our hockey and beer - not always in that order, but very nearly. Please change your bills before you get here... they all look the same and we get confused so easily when it comes to your money.
Strange customs here include wearing touques and muck-lucks at the very first sign of frost, the annual chicken chucking contest, and the general sightings of the Trailer Park Boys. Some strange laws include not being allowed to tie your dogs sled team up to your chevy, not being allowed to drink beer before noon, and all the ones that Murphy keeps thinking up. You'll love it here. Just remember your manners and a sense of humour, and you'll have a great time.

Are you joking? You know that no self respecting Canadian is going to give you a serious answer to any of those questions. It is just too easy. You do realize how big Canada is don't you? Where in Canada are you going? Please do go, educate your self if nothing else.

Niagara Falls is cool... the falls themself are amazing to look at... the nightlife there is supposed to be pretty good from what i've heard if you go to some of the night clubs and the casino... i've been to the casino and it was pretty nice... people in general are pretty friendly...

for the weekend huh
well you get 42 canadian dollars for one us dollar.
if you are going for the weekend, you should have time to see the whole country so remember to bring rubber boots, a french-english dictionary, fancy shoes, a touque (winter hat), skis and an umbrella ( a thing you put over your head so rain does not get on it)
The people...they should all be fascinated to meet you and hear all you have to say. but everyone lives in trailer parks so try not to offend them with trailer park jokes.

no strange laws. bars are 18 and up though:) its all good here. it just snowed where i live. everybodies nice. they would be excited to see an american!
