there is a great company called Maya Wrap, and their website has 'how to make' info for their baby slings (sewing required) and baby pouches (sewing optional).
they don't have patterns but they do have detailed instructions and diagrams on how to make your own, and even if you are not proficient at sewing (like me, i can barely sew on buttons), you should be able to understand the instructions.
they also have an on-line instructional video of how to make your baby sling or pouch.
