Check this out. I believe in God, that makes it my religion, I also believe in the bible, because it is my religion. Now, evolutionist believe in a theory, and dont call it their religion. They believe in what thy read, and dont call it their religion. They get upset about it, but again, no religion.
In a nutshell: I believe God, you believe dirt, because that it what the theory teachess, that all the matter(dirt) in the universe came together...
Again, if you think about it, can evolution not be called a religion?
To all the happy fingers out there, make it a smart answer, please

You just want to stir things up and make people defensive, but in fact, all your questions just make you look uninformed and ignorant.
If you don't understand the fundamental differences between SCIENCE and RELIGION, then it's not worth it to waste my time with an explanation. There are, however, many good explanations here that I'm sure you'll ignore outright.

No, it cannot. A belief in evolution is a belief in a scientific theory, based on empirical evidence. Religion subsists on faith alone, there is no evidence to be found. Why is it that some of you are so thick-headed you refuse to understand the difference between scientific theory and the unscientific use of the word theory? I suppose because it doesn't fit your agenda. One more time from Wikipedia, the definition of SCIENTIFIC theory:
"In science, a theory is a proposed description, explanation, or model of the manner of interaction of a set of natural phenomena, capable of predicting future occurrences or observations of the same kind, and capable of being tested through experiment or otherwise falsified through empirical observation. It follows from this that for scientists "theory" and "fact" do not necessarily stand in opposition. For example, it is a fact that an apple dropped on earth has been observed to fall towards the center of the planet, and the theory which explains why the apple behaves so is the current theory of gravitation."
Now, go outside and have someone drop an apple on your head. It's only a scientific THEORY, but let's hear why you believe gravity doesn't exist then, after all it's just a theory lol.

Evolution is based on science. Religions are not. Religion is defined as a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe. It is not something based on science. Evolution is a scientific thing, so it isn't religion. It does attempt to explain where we came from, but in a purely scientific way.
Also, religions deal with intangible things that can't be proved or disproved. Like the existence of God. Evolution has been proved, see the tuberculosis history.

You still need to study. absorb some of the 60 million years of fossil facts religion ignores, the cave drawings and pottery & art.
I thought God scooped the dust or the dirt to fix adam.(?) Not the Evo's, started in the sea..
Hey, the earth is round and the universe is expanding but religion killed and tortured before they accepted FACTS.
Now! The book says God was lonely and that crap. OK nice story for the why!
But, I say, God set in motion all the events with all the laws to guide all things to happen. down to the sub atomic. But in order for God to controll and monitor the action. God became the 'force' of the action. God became part of everything.
Not some nobel giant, pictured on the Sistine Chapel or mystical vioce or burrning bush(OR ??)
It all is set and the many choices can be made.
You remember " God helps those who help themselves. No magic or miracles.
Religion = social club. See my pretty robes, see my fine jewelery and fancy hat. looky looky how solom can pray and my grace when putting my head on the rug. (showing off). I done enough I hope you had a good laugh.

Um...isn't it *your* book that claims humans were whomped together out of dirt?
You can believe in many things that are not religions. Evolution is one of them.
I believe in the greatness of NASCAR racing, read about NASCAR, believe in the sports pages' writeups, and get upset about it. You wouldn't call that a religion--right?
People like me who believe in evolution also believe that it's the best explanation that exists now. If something came along that disproved it, we'd pay attention. That right there is a huge difference between that belief and your religion.

The theory of evolution is a mechanism and evolution as it happens is not dependent on Darwinism hence evolution is not a theory, it is both a proven fact and a theory, depending on the context. I believe that creationists are the most dishonest, sneaky, inadequate, rotten little twisted weasels on the planet. Creationism is total crap, 100%, no shadow of a doubt and it annoys me intensely that it enjoys a level of credibility that it doesn't deserve.

religions find excuses for when parts of it are proven wrong
scientific theories have some science basis and get knocked down as soon as they are disproved
religion is not only the set of stories, but the lessons that you should learn from those stories, like do unto others, etc.
you dont live your life by evolution, it doesnt teach morals or values, so no, it is not a religion

Uh...the bible?....well then it is YOU who believe we came from dirt.
The difference between your faith being a religion and evolution not being a religion is that you have NO proof for what you believe. You take it on faith. Evolution is fact and has proof to back it up.

Believing in evolution requires more faith than believing in God. Think about it. Pretend you are an evolutionist. You have no real proof, and the little proof you do have is either fraud or it is proved wrong. It taked alot of faith to believe in this!

"Religion is a system of social coherence based on a common group of beliefs or attitudes concerning an object, person, unseen being, or system of thought considered to be supernatural, sacred, divine or highest truth, and the moral codes, practices, values, institutions, and rituals associated with such belief or system of thought."

I have absolutely no idea how you think evolution fits into that definition.
