Several times a day, we atheists are challenged to provide proof that God "doesn't" exist.

As we do not believe in a supreme being, we have no burden of proof. That lies with you.

You say he exists. I challenge you to provide me with proof. Leave faith and scripture out of it. I want real evidence.

peace, man...this was just a follow up to a series of challenges posted by a creationist today. She didn't provide an answer, BTW, as I'd hoped she would.

lol. I've asked that again and again, all over the web and in real life. No one can do it. They always point to the bible as the answer.

This is a very very old dance, The chicken the egg the egg the chicken? But tell me this if you found a swiss pocket watch (watter proof) on the beach thrown up by a wave still ticking would you say "ah yes the metal elements have come together to form a watch" or would you say "heck some one lost a relay nice watch!"? Then why when looking at life in it's well formed beauty you do not see proof of God? Save prayer there really is no way I could ever prove it. Now in a positive way show me how you can believe or rather not. That kind of came out rude sorry!

JP That is the coolist thing I've ever heard from an Athiests mouth you sound like Thomas and you know I beleive He will come soon now don't hold your breath yet JP what will you do when that happens. can we make a bet?

This seems to be a bit out of your usual questions, but ok I will bite.

Proof?
It would be easy to say read or have faith. For me to actually provide a physical touch or material object is not going to happen.
Faith can be a very powerful tool.
I cannot put into words, I can only give my testimony and my family's testimony.
It is up to an individual to believe.
There was no physical evidence that Atheists crave, left behind, we know that.
For generations our families have enjoyed, good life, prosperity and health. There have been numerous times relatives needed help and it always came.
This is not a challenge any one can win.
I am me and you are you. Simple.
I have many friends who are and were Atheists. I do not confound them with scripture or miracles, I can only show them the great pleasure I derive from an exceptional family.
No, I am not bragging. I had a conversation just this morning with my friend, an Atheist, asking how I get things done.
No explanation was necessary. A true friend.

Yes I say he exists, you don't.
I have my evidence and you don't.

Your challenge begs certain questions. What is proof? What proof is adequate? Why are specifically faith and scripture excluded as evidence? At least those questions immediately come to my mind.
The following is my honest attempt though with some objections to the exclusions.
If personal experience is acceptable as proof, as eye witness testimony sometimes is accepted, then I have seen and personally experienced God's influence in my life. I have also personally seen a miracle performed at my request as a child. As an adult, I am amazed that God chose to honor that request. It reminds me of the commercial with the sun setting. The daddy says, "Going, going, gone". The son says, "Do it again Daddy". I reacted to the miracle in much the same way. I honestly believe that nature provides proof of God. Life is a miracle which science cannot explain. Life goes against the principles of thermodynamics. Mathematical analysis and statistics are against the models of creation presented by science. Though not impossible, the creation presented by science is extremely unlikely. It is so unlikely that had it not happened, an outside observer agrueing the point would call it impossible. God changes people's lives. I know of people who tell of the changes in their lives. They quit smoking and abusing alcohol. They quit drugs. They demonstrate love and sacrifice for others when before they were quite selfish and unloving. These are honest and truthful changes. I also believe that history shows God's work. Germany came so close to winning World War Two that it is frightening. Israel prevails against unthinkable odds and foes. From a military point of view, they should not win some of the times when they did. Going back to the account of Christ we see a great change in the way people live and interact with one another. The change has not been constant. Christian history is fraught with evil behavior, specifically the Spanish Inquisition. There is no denial that such happened and is evil. A Christian will not justify such behavior. A Christian will demonstrate God's love while at the same time being human and acting like one making mistakes. God does not make people perfect; He teaches them how to love and act like it.
The greatest evidence there is for God is people and the way they live. Sadly, that is also the greatest opposition as well. There are many liars claiming to be Christian. I cannot do anything about them except love them. The final evidence is you. What have you personally experienced? Have you seen the love which Christ taught? Has anyone told you or shared with you that Jesus loves you no matter what? You are the real proof. How will you respond to love if you have experienced it?

Read the Bible. You ask this question at least once a week. You seem to be seeking something you know cannot be given to your satisfaction. That creates a dead-end sort of question. I've seen some of the answers you get and I understand your frustration. The fact is, you will not know until you know for yourself. You cannot know for yourself unless you read the Bible first and then study the questions that creates. Perhaps you have read the Bible and still want proof. That would indicate that you missed the overall theme of the Bible, which is freedom to choose based on faith. You, too, have that choice. I cannot make it for you and neither can anyone else. The proof you seek won't be forthcoming as that would negate faith. I think you know this. I wish you well.

spooky some of your retorts seem a little more harsh then I would expect. Are you having a bad day. If you really want proof for yourself and not something that you will be able to share with your current friends I will tell you how to do it. There may be a proof that I do not know of but my guess is that the whole idea of faith bein a necessary step leads me (and I suspect you) to know that He did not leave room for a proof.

However if you are willing to put your hand into the fire just reach me and I will guide you to the proof.

Meanwhile I hope your family and you are enjoying life, and loving each other.

Spooky, I've asked this question in the past and failed to get proof that God exists, just as no one has given you proof here and no one will. Faith is not proof and quoting the bible is not proof that God exists! Ya gotta prove there is a God for someone to believe in the Bible.

No proof== No God.

1. you can't answer a question about Christianity w/o going to the scriptures because that would be like finding out the rules of a game w/ out looking in the rule book!

2. I find it interesting that all hydrogen based compounds are poisonous to humans...all except one...water...infact we need water to live and thrive. That is just one example of perfection God used to create the Universe.

3. The other reason you can't prove Gods existence is because if there was absolute proof then there would be no free will. Who would willingly go to hell if everyone absolutely knew (because of seeing or something like that) that God existed.

4. Jesus said to Thomas after he felt his hands and side, "Blessed are those who have not seen and still believe" Not "Blessed are those who need to see and without a doubt proof that I exist before they believe."...therefore Faith!!!

The only answer (besides Bible verses) that they ever seem to give is this: "Life is just so perfect that only a designer could have created it!" But once you realize that life ISN'T perfect, it's easy to see that nothing was "designed." Countless species of animals have gone extinct, and the ones that are still around (including us) are not optimally designed. Human beings have an appendix which is useless. Junk DNA serves no purpose. And why would flightless birds exist if there really was a creator? The below link lists some of the other "poorly designed" parts of various organisms.

To me, those kinds of examples prove evolution, not creation.

...ONE SOLITARY LIFE

...He was born in an obscure village. He worked in a carpenter shop until he was about thirty. He then became an itinerant preacher. He never held an office. He never had a family or owned a house. He didn't go to college. He had no credentials but Himself.
...After preaching three years, the public turned against Him. His friends ran away. He was turned over to His enemies and went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed to a cross between two thieves. While He was dying, His executioners gambled for His clothing, the only property He had on earth. He was laid in a borrowed grave.
...Nineteen centuries have come and gone, and today He is the central figure of the human race. All the armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed, all the parliaments that ever sat, and all the kings that ever reigned have not affected the life of man on the earth as much as that ONE SOLITARY LIFE.
**********************************************
...Jesus of Nazareth, a real, historical figure, evidenced by secular historians and Scripture also, claimed to be God.
...What do you say about His claims? He is either a liar, a lunatic, or He is Lord - and He leaves you no wiggle room. Who is Jesus - your answer will decide your eternity.
...Once you decide who He is, what will you do with Jesus who is called Christ? No one is guaranteed another breath or heartbeat - I urge you to trust Him now, while you still can.
...I do wish you a blessed eternity.

The leaps we are taking with quantum physics could possibly prove that God exists as all of us. There is an indisputable fact that everything exists mathematically, we therefore exist do to this fact. It is mathematics that keeps unity and balance throughout the entire universe. It is a balance in every living and non-living thing. The possibility is that God will be proven to be everything will then make the intangible and tangible worlds make sense. And it has nothing to do with an entity outside of ourselves.
