Normally, I pronounce it the second way, unless I'm referring to Pirates of the Caribbean, then I pronounce it the first way.

technically, the ocean by the Bahamas is pronounced AT- LAN - TICK as no Bahamian island is within 250 miles of the Caribbean.......kind of like saying that the New Jersey shore is part of New England, or that London is part of the Baltic......
having said that,: I've lived in the islands 35 years and either Care i bee an or Cahr ib be an is acceptable

If you were born there, you would probably pronounce it the 2nd way ... if you moved there, or visit, and have a different accent, people tend to pronounce it the first way.
